balisong flippin'
Well I just picked up my first balisong in a couple years (lost my old one some years ago) and started flipping yesterday, just for fun.
I've been scouring youtube for flipping tutorials and have picked up a couple techniques pretty quickly.
And I just got my first cut! lol nothing big just a tiny cut on the front knuckle of my pointer finger. It was bound to happen sooner or later and since I've been having this thing in my hand for all day yesterday and today, it was likely to happen sooner rather than later. A bit of neosporin and a bandaid and I'm good to go.
Anyhoo, anyone else play with these things?

I want a benchmade 42 so much, but no $ for it. Say what you will about cheapos, if you can find some with a good weight and pin construction, you can work around any flaws, especially with more beginner stuff.

I used to have one when i was like 14 but my mom took it away and lost it  I paid $15 it was a cheap one but i liked it alot. my first one... I wasnt bad at flipping around just some opening and closing stuff nothing fancy. I was just getting into it then she took it. lol. I should get another one though theyre fun. Know any good brand names that arent super expensive?

I have 2 of the cheapos too. Plastic covered handles. Weight and balance is way off. Honestly I dont like them. Ive noticed the larger Butterfly's always seem to spin better. The more weight the better. Im not very good at it but I do practice once in awhile. Of the 2 Dixie's I have the larger one is much easier to handle. They are both solid metal construction.
Even Benchmaid can be a pain depending on the materials and size.
Here is what I was wondering though.. How in the world did you cut yourself? Is it a kris blade or otherwise double edged? If it isnt and you're spinning it the right direction, there is no way you can cut yourself! Did you accidentally spin it the other way? The most I ever do is beat the hell out of my knuckles. I dont trust myself enough yet to try to spin a kris or double egde blade.

Oh I just wasn't paying attention while running through a couple techniques i picked up off youtube and accidently used the bite handle (handle the edge is toward), totally dumb mistake to do and I noticed it fast enough that I didn't cause more than a very small cut.

Re: balisong flippin'
OP: I spin a bit when I am bored. It really fun isnt it? I tend to need to be doing multiple things at once, so its really good for me, haha. What I spin is just a cheap-o. Not allowed to carry those in my state, so I bought a beautiful benchmade folder for carrying. VERY pricy, but I <3 it :O :D

Mainbutter has never needed weapons. Mainbutter is a lover, not a fighter, and he's darn good at what he does.
But back on topic, I believe balisongs are not weapons. They CAN be used as such, but they are for the most part 1) tools and 2) 'dangerous yo-yos'

Re: balisong flippin'
I haven't carried any pocket knives regularly since I was an idiot like 4 years ago and forgot a knife in my backpack going through security at the airport. TSA gave me a huge hassle (my fault, but I still hate them) and it was annoying enough that I decided to make sure it never happened again.

did you post that you carry a gun on that one thread though? idk what its called CCW or something of the sort. idk why its not CCP or something. permit. anywhosle. That stinks happened to my cousins boy friend who borrowed luggage and it had a pocket knife in one of the pockets.

Re: balisong flippin'
No I don't carry any firearms, I don't even own any firearms that I COULD carry. The only firearm I own is a hunting rifle, which may be the thread you are remembering?

Re: balisong flippin'
maybe not, i could just be crazy. :gj:

Re: balisong flippin'
Nah you need to move to IN or TX to get a license to carry a firearm on your person I think.
I know here you cant carry butterflies or automatic folders or boot knives that are longer than 6 inches. You can have them. Just cant carry them. I keep a spec plus in my jeep door pocket but if i get pulled over i tell the cop about it and they never care as long as im not trying to conceal it.
BG!! You said your still a kid! That would mean you still play with knives!

Re: balisong flippin'
Used to flip butterflys a lot when i was a lot younger, it was kind of "cool" back then with my lads, but i really got upset when one of my buddies got in a situation when this "toy" turned into a weapon and ruined his life, it was kind of a self defense thing, but without of that "toy" two young guys still would be alive, one stabbed and my buddy commited suicide 1 1/2 years later because he could not get over this thing....
Still my edc knife is an CRKT M16.
Be careful, carrying weapons means responsibilty!

Thats never been an issue for me. I was raised around weapons. Always facinated by them but always responsible. Im against those trying to take that right away from us. Its terrible that you had a bad experience like that with you friend and I can understand. Thats really no different than shell shock or PTSS. One bad experience can cause a permanant problem. Im still a knife collector though. I hope to never feel the need to use any weapon in self defense because I dont want any reason to be without the things I love to collect and play with. My knives, dragons & of course,,, my snakes :snake2:
