Heat mats for rack system
I'm planning to build a small rack for lidless tubs, and will be using heatmats (since in europe it's difficult to get flexwatt) connected to a single thermostat (Habistat pulse proportional). What do you think?
Will it be a problem if there is no gap between the mat and the tub or between the mat and the rack?

Re: Heat mats for rack system
If there is no air circulation between the UTH and the rack it will ruin the UTH. That is why when you purchase a UTH it comes with those little stubs that are sticky on one side (you put them under a tub/tank and it elevates the tub/tank a bit so air can circulate underneath the tub/tank and the UTH).
Re: Heat mats for rack system
but those stubs are not very practical for use on tubs in a rack system...
any ideas?

Flexwatt would be best to use for a rack system.
Re: Heat mats for rack system
order some flexwatt from the U.S.:salute:
Re: Heat mats for rack system
or try heat cables from zoo med. Big apple makes heat cables as well. Good luck
Re: Heat mats for rack system
I found some guys that actually use heatmats for their racks, I'll keep looking around.
Anyone knows of a good site that ships flexwatt to Europe please? And from your experience what's the usual lifetime of flexwatt?
Re: Heat mats for rack system
check out reptilebasics.com bigappleherp.com
its pretty good heat tape last a long time. you have to use a therm though!
Re: Heat mats for rack system
I have a habistat pulse proportional t-stat.
Re: Heat mats for rack system
anyone uses a heatmat without a gap between the tub and heatmat and between heatmat and the surface it's on?
Re: Heat mats for rack system
I found out flexwatt is actually illegal in Europe.
Anyone has used heat mats without gaps between the surface and mat, and between the mat and the tub?
I guess with a good t-stat it should be ok....?

Utter nonsense. If it was illegal I wouldn't have been able to import some and pay customs charges.
I would think it would be ok as long as it was on a thermostat but the tubs I have used so far have inbuilt feet which raises them up slightly in the rack.

Re: Heat mats for rack system
Those stubbs that come with the heat mats are there so the weight of the tank is not sitting on the cord. They create a gap for the cord to run through.
Re: Heat mats for rack system
ok then, i'll try with heatmats and t-stat without a gap, and see what happens...
