    Purchasing a Gram Scale--Few questions
So tonight I'm trying to get my mom to drive me to the store so I can purchase a gram scale. Here a few questions I have about the Gram Scale:

How much would a good Gram scale be? I heard somewhere around $30 for a good gram scale, but I'm just making sure. I have $60 left from my B-day so I'm really wanting to get a gram scale to see how much my snakes weigh.

What's the best place to purchase a gram scale? I heard Wal Mart has some pretty good prices and some pretty good scales there, so I might as well go there.

My last question is, do people really follow you home to see if you aren't trying to weigh drugs?? I'm trying to get my mom to drive me but she says that if you purchase a gram scale people will follow you home to make sure you aren't using it for drugs. I have never heard of that happening, and that is the only reason why she's not driving me to get it.

LOL, you can buy them in the kitchen section at Walmart. I'm fairly certain nobody would be following you home because of it:)
On a side note, you can find great deals online. Don't rush off to Walmart just yet, and we'll see what we can find.

    I use this one.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VRLQFA/...SIN=B000VRLQFA

Well I'll be looking around at Wal Mart but if I don't find anything good then I'm most likely not going to purchase anything. Instead, I'll use the money to rent movies:D

I seriously doubt anyone will follow you home just to make sure you aren't measuring drugs with your scale . . . if that were the case, why would they sell them to begin with? Besides that, people actually use them to weigh things in their kitchens (when cooking ;)).

I bought my scale off of amazon.com since I couldn't find any in local stores that weighed above 2,000 grams. I knew my biggest ball python was larger than that, and I wanted to accurately weigh her. I found one that weighs up to 5,000 grams; it is an Escali digital scale.

Reptilebasics.com also has some scales that weigh more than 2,000 grams. Not sure how big your ball pythons are, but if you have some big snakes, you may want a bigger scale than 2,000 grams anyway, so shopping locally may or may not benefit you.

No one is going to follow you home for buying a scale at WalMart.

Our scale lives on the coffee table, and I often joke that we look like drug dealers, but I'm pretty sure you're safe.

Now, if you buy a bunch of Sudafed at the same time... ;)

I added a link to my last post after you quoted it. This one works well for me.

    And I use this one:

However, either or are still going to be good options. Depends on exactly what you're looking for. ;) Best of luck!

The digital scale that I bought from Wal-Mart was around $27.00. It is a digital food scale and is located in the kitchen accessories section. You can change it from grams to ounces if you want to. It should come with a plastic holding bowl, which is fine for small snakes. I also picked up a 2 gallon Rubbermaid food storage container that I used for the larger ones. If someone follows you home... call the police...

Last time I checked out Wally World, there was a gram scale for $30 in the kitchen supply department.

I bought mine from RBI because I freaking love RBI, and everything they sell is awesome. Seriously. But the one at Walmart would probably work just fine too!! :D

They def will not follow you home that would be illegal on their part and its also kind of creepy. I bought mine at a place called In Your Ear(it is also a headshop) and they didnt follow me and thats a place where people buy scales for drugs and not their kitchen.

Yeah....there's no way the cops would do anything "illegal" like that.;):D

Hey welwood. They didn't follow you, there's a tracking device in the scale you bought.:D

Hands-down the best scale I have ever used:
    http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my...ltrascale.aspx

It's a bit pricey compared to what you might buy in the kitchen section but it has a huge tray that can handle pretty much every ball python out there. I swear by this thing.

I love Old Will Knot scales, they've got a great selection. Here is the one I use...
    http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my-weigh-7001dx.aspx

I've got a few other scales at home that were given to me by a friend. He used to be a polceman and before he retired he cleaned out their evidence room and got rid of all the old stuff they didn't need to hold for court anymore, he had quite a number of gram scales to pass around... :D:D

He never mentioned following anybody home from WalMart, but knowing him you never know...

I also got a number of hemostats from him to use for feeding tongs. Funny thing about these was that they were all burnt at the tips... Hmmmm :O:O:O

I bought my scale from the same place (though, not the same scale).

The big thing to keep in mind is max weight and gradation. If you're weighing ball pythons, you probably want a scale that goes up to at least 3 kg (for the big females). Unfortunately, those are usually only accurate to 1 or 0.5 grams, which may be a problem if you're weighing small stuff like geckos, where you probably want 0.1 g accuracy (though 0.5 g accuracy is fine for BPs since babies are usually ~55 grams or so, which is significantly bigger than 0.5.).

Mine goes up to 4 kg with 0.5 g accuracy, and I use it for both geckos and snakes, though I'd prefer something more accurate.

Mine's from Target. $30. Super nice. Doesn't come with something to weigh your snakes in, but it's accurate and light.
