    My 2012 Prophecy...
First off, this is going to be a long post. It is purely my own opinion, so there are no scientific studies, data, or debates to justify it. It is based solely on what I see as I look at the world around me.
Last night my nephew called "just to see how I was doing", since we haven't spoken in a few weeks. He off-handedly commented about the fact that he would be graduating high school in 6 weeks (has it been that long?). I think there may have been an ulterior motive to this phone call, and I suddenly forsee a fast approaching deduction from my bank account. While we were discussing his future plans as far as college, possible careers, etc... He said something that startled me. He said he couldn't wait to get out of high school because he was tired of hearing all of his classmates constantly complaining about the future. I asked him to explain this. He said that most of his classmates have no plans to attend college, embark on careers, or anything, because there is no point since the world is going to end in 2012. They actually plan on staying at home, sponging off their parents, partying, and waiting for the end of the world. Seriously? Could some of you parents and/or teenagers please enlighten me? Is this what Generation Y, Z, or whatever letter we are on now truly believes? Is this an entire generational doomsday cult? At this point I started telling him what my theory on the 2012 deadline is.
I do not believe the world will actually end. I do not believe that an asteroid is going to collide with Earth and I do not believe Armageddon will occur. I do believe, however, that is when we, as the human race, will reach the end of our imagination, and artistic creativity and our technology will both surpass and replace that creativity.
I'll start off with food. We have become so dependant on pre-cooked, pre-packaged, pre-canned, pre-heated, pre-frozen, ready-to-eat, self-serve, self-checkout, express lane, open all night drive-thru junk food, that alot of people can no longer prepare their own meals. The vast majority of people don't know how to grow their own food, let alone trap/snare an animal, kill it, gut it, skin it and prepare it for consumption. Hunting and harvesting is merely a quick trip to the grocery store and 2 minutes in the microwave. Our technology does this for us.
Now, let's look at music. There is only a finite number of musical notes that can be played, therefore, there is only a finite number of combinations that these notes can be arranged in, which means there is no more "truly" new music. Everything played is just a repeat of something played before. Sure, you can speed it up, slow it down, or use technology to change the overall sound, but the song remains the same. Our last great musical creation was what? Techno, which was created in whole or part on computers. Our technology did this for us.
Next comes movies. Am I the only one whose noticed that true original movie ideas are coming fewer and farther between? I mean, with all the people in the movie industry, the best that they can come up with is hi-fi, hi-def, re-hashed, regurgitated, re-casted, remakes of movies, T.V. shows, and comic books that have already been done. Oh, don't forget to add an ample amount of computer generated graphics to make it "new". Our technology does that for us.
Now I will talk about comedy. No new jokes. "Comedians" today do nothing more than criticize, ridicule, and degradize the faults and shortcomings of various individuals, groups, and ethnic populations. Perhaps we should find this sad, yet we laugh. Possibly, by laughing at other peoples faults, we are simply denying our own. What was our last great joke creation? Chuck Norris jokes? Now there is a legacy to leave behind. Anthropologists of the future are going to think Chuck Norris was our God based on the jokes we made about his immortality and omni power. By the way, Chuck Norris played "The Force" in Star Wars. Our technology did not do this for us.
Next, let's talk about the human race in general. The Law of Natural Selection basically states that the strong will survive and the weak, sick, old, and genetically deficient will not. This has held true since the begining of time in nature, yet, due to our technology, we have come to defy this law. Thanks to everything from electricity to climate control to medical practices, we have allowed everyone to survive more and longer, when the reality is, according to nature, they should not have. The result is, we have now so grossly over populated the planet that where we once existed as part of nature, we now have become nothing more than a parasite of it. Politicians and scientist say we can save the planet. We must act now, before we reach the point of no return. I say we have long since passed the point of no return. The Industrial Revolution was the point of no return. For that was when we truly began to rape, pillage, plunder, and pollute the planet without abandon, consequence or recourse. Recycling? Futile at this point based on the shear magnitude of waste that has been, and will continue to be generated. In order to support our ever increasing population, we continue to clear land in order to expand our habitats, while continually driving other species into extinction by destroying theirs. Is there even enough land left to produce enough food for everyone to eat? Barely. We have become so dependant on our own technology that we have actually weakend ourselves as a species. A/C in the summer, heating in the winter, plumbing all around. Me make artificial environments to live in, away from nature, instead of, as part of it. We don't walk. We ride. Why? Because it's easier. We don't climb stairs. We take the elevator. Why? because it's easier. We want our technology to do more of the work so that we can do less. Why? Because it's easier. We have even tried to shortcut our own physical fitness. Running/ walking outside is medievel. I can go to a fully air-conditioned/ heated gym and use a treadmill, eliptical trainer or stationary bike. Why? because it's easier. If I want to sweat, I don't need to work out. I can sit in a sauna. Why? Because it's easier. Bowflex, Total Gym, Thigh Master, Gazelle, Ab Lounge. Got a big gut? Don't do crunches. Electrocute it with a Slendertone. 10 Minute Abs, 6 Minute Abs, 3 Minute Abs, Body by Jake, Billys Boot Camp, Tae Bo, Turbo Jam, Salsa dance that butt away. Dance like a stripper, we'll send you a pole for your coffee table, AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Why? Because it's easier. I'll tell you this. We have become one big, fat, lazy, pasty, pampered morph of our ancestors. We, in our quest for greater technology to make things easier, have even managed to reduce/remove the element of personal contact from our lives. Do we visit and converse with our family and friends? No. We webcam it. Do we attend social functions? No. We'll catch it on YouTube. Do we even take the time to hand write a personal letter? No. Send an e-mail. We have gotten to the point where we hardly even talk to each other on the phone. We text. Why? Because it's easier.
By now, you have got to be thinking "What is the point to this freakishly long novel?"
My point is this. And this is my prophecy for 2012. The human population will finally reach critical mass. There will not be enough natural resources to support the population. The first group of humans will leave Earth in search of a new planet to colonize and start the whole process over again. Perhaps they will forecast a calendar that ends in 5012 and cause the same drama for their descendants. Because we will have reached the limits of our imagination and creativity, we will become completely reliant on our technology for ideas, solutions, and our very survival. Computers win... Checkmate. Our technology did this....

I'm 18 and in college and going to go to grad school in 4 years. I'm not an idiot. Even if the world is going to end (which I don't think will happen, I'm pretty scientific in my thinking about things) I better have a plan for my life if it doesn't end. And I'll enjoy it on my way anyway without the partying and still having my best friends to stand by me.

That is such a shame. Waste of human minds to me. That's like telling snake breeders to stop breeding because it will all be gone soon. Not gonna happen.

Also, it's really funny because this 'end of the world' thing has happened before. I don't think we have anything to worry about, and even if we do there isn't anything we can do but live our life to the fullest until it happens. :peace:

Awesome post :) I read the entire thing, and it was very well thought out. I too share the same opinions, as far as technology doing everything for us. I fight not using microwaved cooked meals, using the ac and heating, among other things. The only thing I don't fight (and physically can't) is using the AC gym. I have bad knees, and can't run outside due to the high impact on them. I do however try to park as far away from whatever store I'm going in to burn a little extra calories and strengthen my body.

Even though most of your very valid and well thought out points are true, some may not see that and will fight it. Thumbs up to you for posting this!

Edit: And yes, those kids are stupid for believing such hype. But can we really blame them? They've been brought up in a media world, and everything the media says "must be true". Many of these kids are probly watching Fox news, and don't really research what they read or hear. Granted, I'm only 20 so I don't have much room to talk, but at least I'm not planning on mooching of my parents because I believe such media hype.

I graduated from high school in 2009. I'm currently enrolled in the music ed program at the school of my dreams. The world is going to end in 2012 they say? My college graduation is in the spring of 2013, and I will be there to get my diploma.

Yep. It's a great book, first of... very, very long book, but great.

The gist is that the great thinkers of the world, great inventors, writers, engineers, leave the world behind (actually, they don't physically leave the world, they just leave their jobs and homes and disappear). They leave the world in the hands of men that can't think for themselves, that get where they are by taking and breaking favors. The world, well... ends, for lack of a better term. Society fails completely. And once the way is clear, and the men of favors (the moochers they call them) have all gone from the world, the men of thought return to rebuild.

It's a WHOLE lot more philosophical than that, and it's based on a whole thought process called Objectivism, but the above is basically what the story's about.

Your theory just made me think of it.

I just checked it out on Wiki. I may have to see if I can squeeze it in between semesters. I remember back in 1982 we had to read the book 1984 by George Orwell and everybody was freaking out about it. The thing is, it pretty much came to fruition... 15 years later.

I saw a bunch of 2012 t-shirts for sale online today. None of them say what I want... "2012 is the new Y2K. Are you compliant?"

2012 is different then the past "end of the worlds"

Y2k was never the end of the world.. it was feared because computers to that point only used 96,97,98,99 and they feared when everything reset to 00 systems all around the world would crash and there would be mass chaos.. they fixed all the major cases way ahead of time and obviously nothing happend..

many different cultures all around the world predict 2012 having a significant meaning to us as humans, from what the mayans say "Human life as we know it, will cease to exist." this does not mean earth is going to blow up or all humans will die. but SOMETHING drastic will occur that will change life as we know it..

possible new discovory that changes all science?
    nuclear war?
    the rapture?
    meteor?
    solar flares?

regardless of what you want to believe or not, i personally think that something will happen in 2012. im not going to quit my day job over it or anything, but im still thinking everyones life will be affected somehow. might be small, might be big idk

Just because an ancient calendar ended in 2012, definitely does NOT mean that the world is going to end. Just because they did not finish that calendar, does NOT mean the world is going to end on the date they finished at. People at my school believe the world is going to end in 2012, but I think it's BS. Didn't they say in the past, "Oh the world is going to end in 2000--somethin!" I don't really remember the years people were saying that, but nothing happened, and the world didn't end in those previous years.

By 2012 I definitely think technology will be so advanced that people are going to be the laziest they have ever been in history. I already see now how people are lazy, and from that people are becoming obese, too. I hear many people say they can't even live without their phone, without the computer, without television, without internet, etc., but when humans first existed on this earth they were able to survive without phones, computers, iPods, television, etc. I have a phone, and I do text a lot, but when I run out of minutes and my phone is useless, I find something better to do than beg my mom for more minutes. The only thing I go on the computer for is for BP.net, MySpace sometimes, and YouTube. I go on this forum to find information, I go on YouTube to watch snake videos, and I go on MySpace to upload pictures of my snakes, I barely even chat with people on MySpace and I'm not on it long at all.

I agree with every sentence on your thread.

My best friend and I have been reading and learning about 2012 for a long time, long before it became mainstream. All the while I've been chugging away at school and work, building up savings and lately investing in snakes and my future business. In the end, if the day finally comes and the Earth is about to explode, I don't feel like it will all have been a waste. I'll have something to remember for a few seconds before I get vaporized. And you know what? That's OK with me. My friend fell into the selfish "why bother" attitude for a while and really hurt his relationships and life in general. It truly saddens me to hear that entire classes are following this path now.

I agree with this poster.. & here is why.. Something is happening on that date but the certain combination of things that are happening have never happened all at the same time before. So theoretically, no one knows if it will mean destrucion, global changes, etc.. Scientists are thinking it will a very noticable change but there is no way to know until it happens.. Read on if you want to know what is going to happen... This is what that new movie is based on (loosely) but the movie is fiction. Vamped up for the shock factor & money making..

Scientists have noted that when Jupiter and Saturn are aligned on the same side of the Sun, the solar maximum (the period when we have the most sunspots and flares) is at its weakest; when they are on opposite sides of the Sun the solar maximum is at its strongest. The positions of these two planets on December 21, 2012 are ideal for extreme solar activity.

Our solar system is part of a huge disc shaped collection of stars and planets called the Milky Way. We're located somewhere on the edge of the disc, slightly on top of the narrow disc. But very soon we'll be moving to the bottom of the disc. This change, from top to bottom, begins on December 21, 2012.

Yes, that's right. On the same day when our Sun is at it's solar maximum, something will happen that's never happened for thousands of eons of time -- the ecliptic of our solar system will intersect with the Galactic plane, called the "Galactic Equator" of the Milky Way!

Prior to December 2012 we have been drifting on the top of the pizza, never really able to see the bottom. The plate and pizza are not parallel. They are moving at different angles. We've been drifting down, down, down... and on December 21st, 2012, we will be exactly level with the crust -- forming an "x" at the Galactic Equator where galactic gravity is the strongest. After 2012, if we are still here, we will be passing through the bottom zone, viewing the Milky Way pizza from the South.

    Yes, there's even more!

By some amazing coincidence, not only will we be intersecting with the Galactic Equator, but we will be doing this precisely aligned with the center of the Galaxy where there is maximum mass! More mass means more gravity. More gravity means more influence from those barycenters in our Sun. That means exponential increases in solar disruptions -- all coinciding on the same day! Whew..

.......The reason people are freaking out about this is because its not being told exactly what is happening to our solar system and planet. Instead people are only telling and hearing stories about end of the world etc.. But they are not being giving a scientific reason as to why this might be possible..

Y2K was silly. There was no scientific evidence to prove that anything bad would happen if the computers couldnt recognize the year 2000. Sure its possible some systems could have crashed but its not going to make the earth blow up.

The combinations of things happening in our system on that date in 2012 theoretically should do some damage to this planet. Weather changes. Gravity changes. Something. But what exactly? No one knows because these 3 things have never happened all at the same time before. All we can do is wait and see if the planet can handle it.

Its not some goofy scifi armageddon idea. Its science. It hasnt happened yet but it will. So in 3 years I hope we still have internet so we can come here & talk about it again after its happened.

I don't know who your nephew goes to school with, but i will be graduating high school this year. I have plans to attend college, I work everyday after school, i have goals and all that good stuff, but hey maybe im the odd ball.

I personally have 2 guesses about whats going to happen. My first is what i consider my "crazy" idea. Zombies. Running around, killing, eating brains. :rolleye2: My second and more rational thought is that nothing will really happen. I agree that we will be far more technologically advanced by then but there wont be any one day where meteors fall from the sky and fire erupts from the ground. But hey who knows, i guess we will have to wait and see...

    Re: My 2012 Prophecy...
the fact you think all of this is going to just stop in 3 years is kinda silly.

We're not going to forget how to hunt for ourselves. tons of people still hunt(for the right reasons). its not going to dissapear in three years. there are still tons of people who are self sufficient, again i don't think they'll magically dissapear in 3 years. we are still animals, we won't forget about our survival instincts even if technology makes everything easier for us.

food: cuisine is ever evolving, it has endless possibilities. sure there are tons of pre packaged products and things like that for the masses, but cooking is an art that isn't just going to dissapear. it'll continue to advance and evolve for years to come. its not like all of our food will be replaced by soilent green and bachelor chow in 2 years. (well, maybe soilent green, a possible solution to the over-population problem :D)

music: again, there will never be a point (not any time soon) that every possible combination of notes will have been performed/recorded. sure theres a lot of music that sounds the same, its because most musicians don't care to go outside the box anymore. if you look hard enough you'll find lots of great, experimental bands, pushing the limits of instruments, music & time signatures as we know it. i think music is just peaking. the fact that theres so much of the same gives more reason to try and create something new.

theres a chance that genetically modified crops could hinder the shortage of food, we just need to get these plants to the countries that need them. i also think new diseases and sicknesses will become more abundant once there are too many people, naturally thinning the population in places that can't afford to fight them off.

i don't wanna occupy my mind with ridiculous prophecies, whats the point? if any of them are true, its a waste of precious time to dwell on them. same if they're not true. who cares. life could end tomorrow, might as well enjoy it with no preoccupations.

I don't know why people think cities aren't 'nature'. they're as natural as anything. we are animals, cities are just our species' naturally created communities. like any other species, we continuously adapt and evolve over time.

    just my friendly 2cents.

He said that most of his classmates have no plans to attend college, embark on careers, or anything, because there is no point since the world is going to end in 2012. They actually plan on staying at home, sponging off their parents, partying, and waiting for the end of the world.

99% wrong Rob. Wherever you said "we"...you need to say "Americans". BG has spent time in many other countries and they're not the ones that you're talking about. You're talking about Americans. In Denmark the mailman rides a bike in the snow for example.

We'll be living under the sea, or in space in the future Rob....probably on the moon also. Big Gunns hears what you're saying, but it sure sounds like you're talking about Americans to Big Gunns.:D

I read somewhere that the 2012 end date in the Mayan calander was actually incorrect. I'll try to find it again.

When 2012 is past someone will pull a new date out of their butt to get worked up about.

I'm really not concerned. I know a lot of people are probably going to feel pretty silly in 2013. Especially those kids who are choosing to squander their lives away in their parents' basements. :P

    HEARHEAR.

But i still think natural selection is at work. :) We cannot defy mother nature. That is the inevitable truth.

I dont even care anymore. 2012, 2025, whatever. The world is going to end when some jackass madman comes in to power in some unstable region that has nuclear capabilities and some ICBMs on hand, launches one to let his people see his strength, trips our systems and causes our SSBNs to launch Trident II D5 Missiles carrying 12 warheads each as a retaliatory measure. Other countries will freak, everyone blows up and dies. That's a more realistic scenario than some stupid Mayan calendar predicting Armageddon, an asteroid hitting us or gremlins taking a bath and running rampant.

Personally, my world ends if HR2811 passes.

I'm not sure if most people know this - The reason why people are believing this is because the Mayans predicted other world disasters. I don't know exactly which ones, but I heard this somewhere. So people think that just because they've predicted other disasters, this one will come true too. That, and it's being pushed down everyones throat by the media right now so that doesn't help.

The people that believe this will come true need to think hard about this. It's like saying "Ok, I'm going to wear a blue outfit today" You can't assume it's just going to be jeans and a t-shirt. It could be a blouse and a skirt, shorts and a long sleeve, sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Honestly, the people that believe the things that are being hand fed to them are just sad...

People claim Nostradomous predicted all kinds of events, too, but most of his 'prophecies' are vague and can be applied to anything, have been skewed to fit, or just made up completely by people urging on the hype. A lot of people want to believe in things like that - I'm not sure why, I don't really like the idea of the world ending.

I find that while high school kids in my area don't necessarily believe the world will end in 2012, they do believe the American Dream has died. Hence the extended stay with mom and dad.

I'm going to bet everyone I can for 50 dollars that the world is not going to end.

Chances are, I'll get lots of money, and even if the world does end, no one cares about money anyway!
