Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Did you make your calls and send out faxes today? November 5th is THREE days away - we need to be heard, and we need everyone to make their calls and send their faxes.
Please call each person once a day - click on the red alert banner on the forum to get to the post that lists the phone numbers and fax numbers.
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Soo....is that a resounding no, then?
Folks, this is serious business - it's important that we ALL make our calls. Don't sit back and think that someone else will do it.

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Made My Calls and Sent My Faxes!

Sound off people, This issue needs everyones support!

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
This is tiring! The last time this ban was up I called and faxed my brains out! Not to mention I joined USARK as a bronze member.
I wish they would hurry up and leave this matter alone. Its such a waste of taxpayers money. Most of their arguments are completely false or make no sense at all. Its just rediculas. I wish they could all spend one hour reading through this forum just to see some truth about the entire herp nation and just how many people would be damaged by a ban like this.
Im really getting sick of this.
Something that didnt even occur to me until now.. I wonder if they have even thought about the possibility of herps going up in value if they did ban them. Through history everytime something gets banned people do more and pay more to get whatever that is in their possesion. Wouldnt that be a slap in the face of these congress people? IF they ever do succeed in passing a ban, I sincerely hope that is exactly what happens. I hope that nothing, not even new (rediculas) laws will ever stop the herpers.

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
I don't have any minutes on my phone, but when I get home tomorrow I'll call.

Of the slithering kind, or truly hard candy? :P
C'mon folks - this is Day 2 to make your calls and send in your faxes. Let your voice be heard. Don't assume that someone else is going to do this, in fact, assume that they aren't, and get angry enough to not sit idly by and let that happen!

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Faxing every number on the list!
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Called every number on the list yesterday.
In the middle of calling every number on the list as of right now for today.
Thank goodness for unlimited minutes on my cell :D
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
I called 70% of the list today, but no free land line minutes. Some of the lines are busy, and some secretaries have commented on the large amount of phone calls they are recieving about the HR2811 bill. We are a big community and wont go down easy.
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
No, not yet.
However, I'm enlisting the help of my friends via facebook and my family via email.
Today and tomorrow, we're ALL going to call!
We won't go down, at least not without a fight!!!

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Made my phone calls, but don't have easy access to a fax machine. Any ideas?
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Made all my calls and did the faxing. I couldn't however get through to Congressman John Lewis..I'm going to try calling tomorrow.
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Your local Library or Kinkos office should be able to fax them for you.

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Thank you all for making your calls and faxes today - don't forget to do the same tomorrow!!!!
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Calls all made today :)
some reps said they had gotten a lot of calls about HR2811, some seemed not that pleased but everyone was polite. I'll be making calls tomorrow.
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Made my calls and now I'm going to vent. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that it's always the Democrats who want to know your zip code? I noticed the exact same thing on the HR669 campaign. So basically if we can't vote for them or against them, they don't care.
-
Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
I will be calling tomorrow. This is getting really old. These people need to be made gone.

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS
Please join the Reptile Nation in a Congressional Call In Opposing HR2811 aka The Python Ban November 2, 3 & 4.If you value your Boas & Pythons you will participate and encourage your entire sphere of influence to do the same. There is a Hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Crime,Terrorism & Homeland Security scheduled for November 5th. Please call in and OPPOSE HR2811.
As originally written HR2811 would add the entire genus python to the Injurious Wildlife List of the Lacey Act. This would effectively end the Import, Export and Interstate Transport of any animals listed. In July USARK was successful in narrowing the scope of the bill by removing most pythons with an amendment offered by Congressman Tom Rooney. The amendment would limit the bill to the Burmese Python and the African Python. In addition committee staff agreed in principle to further amend the bill to allow the captive bred trade in these two snakes to continue. To date this promise has not been kept and the HR2811 has not been amended to allow for captive bred trade.
Meanwhile the USGS Risk Assessment of 9 Large Constricting Snakes has been released. The Humane Society of the United States is lobbying hard to have HR2811 amended to include the entire genus python, as well as the four species of anaconda, and Boa Constrictor referred to in the USGS report. Do not assume that HSUS will not be successful in getting HR2811 amended to reflect these changes. Only USARK and the Reptile Nation stand between HSUS and the destruction of our community.
Our science experts have done a cursory analysis of the USGS report and characterize it as “…loose with numerous mistakes and inaccuracies. It is an oversimplification of a very complicated topic.”The bottom line is it is not the solid piece of science HSUS wanted to use as a tool to break the back of our community. However that has not stopped them from mischaracterizing it as just that.
What can I do?
***November 2,3 & 4 Call In and Fax the Subcommittee and voice your opposition to HR2811. Be polite & professional!
Script:
My name is____. I oppose HR2811. It is overly simplistic and politically driven. It is poorly thought out and sacrifices good science forpolitical expediency. The negative economic impact for my family and business would be significant. Please oppose HR2811. Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Hr2811 - have you made your calls?
Made some calls.
I still don't understand why this website doesn't send mass PM's to all their users. During the 669 thing I Pm'ed and emailed the people in charge asking them why and got no real answer.
If pythons get banned this website will be no more. You'd think the people in charge would care a little more and do something as simple as hitting a button that would let all the registered users know about these new bills.
I think we (the reptile community) may be a day late and a dollar short when it comes to stopping the inevitable from happening (reptiles being banned in the US). The people in this hobby/biz are just to lazy or just not very caring when it comes to there love of keeping reptiles it seems. I'm not saying all of them are but the large majority of keepers or breeders just don't seem to care.
I still don't understand why it's so freaking hard for people to pick up a phone or print off some letters and do their part to protect (what they say they love and care about) our hobby.
Well that's my rant for the day. Back to my cave I go. They'll have to fight me to take my snakes.
(insert middle finger smiley) PETA and HSUS!!!!
