Your opinion
My only female is a pewter, who recently got bit by a rat. She was right at 1600 g when this happened. Now she is on a 4 week antibiotic course and will not be fed during this time. She is a superb eater and hadn't missed a meal prior to being bit.
Do you think it would be ok to pair her up after she begins to feed again and is off the meds? Vote and give your opinion if you feel so inclined. Thanks in advance.

Re: Your opinion
id say yea she should still be fine.

Re: Your opinion
Yah i think so. What are you pairing her with?

Re: Your opinion
In this case, I think it will be fine. She's on antibiotics for a bite wound, not something infectious. However I would wait until she's had a few good meals in her after the wound is healed before breeding. Healing takes a lot of energy, so want to make sure she is in a good plane of nutrition before asking her to make babies. :snake:

Re: Your opinion
Is she on antibiotics because the wound got infected or just as a precaution?

Thats a good question. But if she's well I'd say go for it.

Re: Your opinion
She should be fine to breed if she has no issues. Good luck.:gj:

Re: Your opinion
Hmmm that is a tough one. If you're askings because you're worried about her weight, I'm sure she'd be alright going off feed for only 4 weeks, that's assuming she starts eating again. I'm not familiar with the effects of antibotics so I can't really say. Even if you decided to wait till she eats again it's only four weeks!

Then I would go for it. The antibiotic was more than likely unnecessary unless the wound was very severe.

Not so much a weight issue, as I know she'll be back on feed soon after getting off the AB's. I just didn't know what kind of an issue the AB's could have on her breeding and/or eggs.

Re: Your opinion
Wow, I'm glad that she turned out to be alright! I was really worried when you told us that she was bleeding from the mouth.
If the bite wasn't too bad and the antibiotics are only precautionary I would say go for it. Depends on what you feel comfortable doing though, waiting a little bit wouldn't hurt either if you don't want to push her.

Re: Your opinion
I was cleaning cages today and checked in on her. The mark on the outside of the mouth is nothing more than a nick now, I don't know what the inside wound looks like, but, hopefully it is healing as nicely as the outside. She did seem kind of perturbed that she hasn't eaten in over a week and is also not very happy with me right now with all of the various ways I've applied medicine in the past week. Overall though, I think she is well on her way to a nice recovery.
