Yea what is believed to happen is that mom didn't produce enough calcium to fully cover the egg so you get a window. Yea there is a little mold, see an egg is a living thing till the baby hatches, complete with an immune system and the whole bit. As long as the embryo is healthy then a little mold is no biggie as you can see. The egg is strong enough to keep the mold from spreading. You will notice that the mold is on the thinnest spot of the window. I assume because there less of the mold fighting "Whatever" being produced there.

wow.. amazing peek into that normally unseen world. Shame you couldn't take one daily photo to watch the growth going on. hope you have your super pastel in there but congrats on a healthy clutch.

Thanks I'm really looking forward to seeing what is in this clutch.
Re: Here's something that you don't see everyday
Hope it's hatch for you !
I have seen some people clean the mold and put a bandaid on it. That way you prevent it from breaking and losing the yolk.

Well I didn't see any reason to risk it..it wasn't growing or spreading so no harm no foul..
I had an egg this season that was infertile it molded like nobody's business and there little if any that spread to adjoining eggs. I mean this thing was black and gnarly looking other eggs did just fine..
