When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
Tonight, I gave my Ball pythons a bath. Mainly because they dropped a load in their enclosures. This got me thinking, when do you give your Ball(s) a bath? I normally give them a bath whenever I'm up to it, but since I've read that giving them a bath is good for them, I was wondering when I should start giving them a bath.

I voted Once a year because I only do it if they've crawled through their own waste. I've read that bathing can leech oils, but I'm not sure if thats true.

I never give mine a bath. I'm not aware of any benefit in doing so.

Every time they shed they give themselves a bath. If im holding one and he poops ill run him under warm tap water but thats all.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I do it if they really stink when I take them out for cleaning their tubs. Or if they are having trouble shedding. That's about it.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I never bathe them. If they take a poo bath I clean them off and then a bit of a wipe with diluted chlorhexdine if they are going to be handled.

Other than rinsing off moms real quick after laying, or the occasional one who truck through their own waste a bit too much, I don't.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
Only in excessive poop situations. No point otherwise, unless you listen to the "best" herp vet in Utah and soak 3x a week to accomadate the 90% humidity that ball pythons require. *roll eyes*

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I also only give bath's when they have poo on them or if any shed is stuck. I use fairly large water bowls and I have never seen any of my BP's in them yet so I don't think they really care to take bath's.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I said every 2 weeks, but that's not quite true. I bathe every 3 weeks to a month, usually several days after a feed to help him pass waste. Generally in the bath, he'll pass urates and urine and sometimes poo, so I don't have to change the newspaper and scrub down the hides on which he went to the bathroom all the time.

I dont give them baths, unless there is a not pooping/peeing issue.

When they pee and/or poo over themselves I give them a quick "rinse" to get rid of the smell and waste on them.

If they have stuck shed I will. I just wipe them off if they were roaming through their poo

Moms get a bubble bath after their eggs are taken away. Other than that, no baths.

A lil soap and water is a must when the snake smells or has decided to roll in the "mud".

If my Burm poops, I set him in the tub for a few minutes. If my BP does, I just run him under the sink.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
Never. He has a huge water dish which is more than adequate for him to crawl in when/if he wants. It is located near the CHE and his UTH so the water is usually nice and warm but not hot. The water is changed frequently.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I just feel like if she/he crawled through their own poo for a while and I can visually see it on them that I should clean it off. I don't bathe them persay as much as rub them down with a wet cloth. I don't see a benefit from giving them baths.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
since I don't really like the idea of handling him if he might have poo or pee residue on him I usually just wipe him down with a damp cloth after he goes to the bathroom. i don't really give him 'baths' persay.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I only give 'em baths if

    1. they're having a stuck shed problem,
    2. they decided to play in their poo,
    3. they seem constipated,
    4. a female has just laid eggs, and
    5. they are newly-hatched (gooey) babies.

Granted, I have yet to do 4 and 5, but that's when I will bathe them when I do get to those.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I believe the only time you would want to put in water would be to assist with poor shed. If the animal has issues with waste on them I would suggest a room temp wet rag and wipe that area down. I am not aware that swimming in water is a normal thing for a ball python to do. Their shed is their growing and bathing process. This is just what I do....hope it helps:)

I also don't bathe my BPs. The most I do is wipe them down with a paper towel if they've decided to somehow dump their water dish.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I only bathe when they have mites, a stuck shed, or when they make a mess of themselves. All in all, I bathe all of them every month or so. The blood gets bathed on an even more regular basis because he actually enjoys baths. The beardie gets bathed daily.

Now if you want to know when Big Gunns soaks his Ball Pythons. Only if constipated.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
i only soak if someone is dehydrated or having a stuck shed. I actually get some mild (dial) soap out if they stink from rolling around in their poo.

I don't regularly bathe anything as i don't think they benefit from it. I rarely get a bad shed with anything so i know the humidity is fine.

When a female lays eggs I will wash her with soapy water and when there is poop on one of my animals I will wash with soapy water. Other than that their on their own.

Re: When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
I use smaller water dishes. but back in the day when I only had a couple ball pythons I noticed that if you do give them a big enough water dish, that sometimes they do like to do a full soak. checking my ball pythons atleast once a day, If I find anyone who is *trying* to soak in their smaller dish, ill throw them in the tub for a bit, let them have some fun. otherwise the only time I give them an actual *bath* is females right after laying, I rub them down with soap and water to get the egg smell off of them.

When do you give your Ball(s) a bath?
Magnus only gets a bath if he decides to give his tank a stinky paint job or if he's having a rough shed. Other than that he takes care of his own cleanliness.
