What gets your Goat on the forums?
Seems like there are a few things that happen on the internet in forums that make people annoyed, upset, irritated and just plain mean.
What is it in particular that really gets you heated?
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Ignorance, blatant stupidity, and......3rd person talk.
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
I hate when people ask a question and then seem to argue with people if the answer isnt exactly what they wanted. Makes me want to strangle them for asking in the first place if they are not going to listen.
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Wes. LOL! j/k :)
People who are not open to any kind of help, and only do things their way.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Oh and also, a good camera, a shiny coat, a handsome Baahh and a solid line.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Rigid Regurgitation.
It doesn't get my goat, it's not worth getting angry over someone not believing things can be done any way but theirs, it just irritates me that they think they can make those statements and then expect no one to question, much less say they're outright wrong, what they've puked up on the floor.
Just because it's in a book doesn't mean it's true.
Just because it's not in a book, doesn't mean it's wrong.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Maybe people that don't know where the search button is?
I'm pretty mellow
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Random, potentially dangerous suggestions to problems when the person really has no idea what they're talking about.
Particularly with dogs! If you've never dealt with an aggressive animal before, why in the world would you suggest someone dominance roll their aggressive 100 lb shepherd? Blargh!
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
"Is my snake a morph" threads. OR ppl that cant get their own reptile stuff straight but yet they insist on giving advice, and its even more funny when its hearsay. Also ppl posting graigslist ads.
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
I was going to make a goat joke but I was beat to it! :D

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
umm. interesting thread :gj:
okay. i hate it when people are RUDE in giving advice o_O. sure they're probably right, but there are way nice ways to go about. maybe im just sensitive to the newbies (i still consider myself a newbie). i mostly see "veterans" being obnoxious and condescending when giving information.
i also dont like it when someone starts an argument in a thread, even if its just a misunderstanding, then EVERYONE joins in on the argument T.T, pretty much hijacking a thread...
i too dont like when people ask questions that they can find in the stickies T.T... just a peeve, i guess, but seriously LOL, read the caresheets!!!
and i too hate it when ppl hold grudges on the forum, and continue stalking the poster, instigating more fuss.
:D

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
I don't know anymore. Nobodys been able to get it for a while. There used to be a few things that irked me, but I just can't seem to get worked up about them anymore. Maybe I'm mellowing in my old age.
Actually, now that I think about it a little more, there is really only one kind of thing that still irritates me from time to time. That's people who speak in absolutes... IE:
'You MUST keep only one snake to a cage'
'You MUST have a cage that is at least 'X' size'
'You MUST use (product-X) for getting rid of mites'
'You MUST wait until your females are (X-sized) before you breed them'
Etc.......
It really doesn't get my goat that much, but it just makes me wonder how people can get to be so closed minded. I guess I've been around snakes long enough and have seen enough 'exceptions to the rule' to realize that there really AREN'T any hard and fast rules.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
I really don't like the "what morph should I get?" threads.
It's like. If you really want a morph and you like ball pythons, you should enjoy pouring over the thousands of BP photos. Pick one that you like and don't wait for someone else to tell what to buy!?:O:confused: It doesn't make sense.
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Doesnt get my goat, but I definetly end up getting theirs.... Its funny to me how if you go against the grain with what the popular belief is on any forum, people are so fast to lay their logic down on why you are wrong for something.... Like I even care. I just sit in my computer chair and laugh while they get mad.......
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
I don't get irritated by most of what goes on in the forums. Newbies will ask questions that others have asked, some people are not as polite as others when giving advice, some are know-it-alls (although this can be dangerous), etc. It's all about dealing with different personalities.
What annoys me are the 'how much $$$ can I make off breeding ball pythons?' threads posted by people that either don't have a single snake yet or have just barely set up their first. Sure it is a business for many, and sure it's great to have a hobby that can pay for itself, but some of the members that post those threads think they will make it rich overnight and once they figure out the reality, we'll see their snakes up on CL because they are not turning a profit on their 'business'.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
People who are either too inept or too lazy to use the search function. 75% of the questions asked on most forums have been already been asked and answered repeatedly.
A good example on this forum is, "Why hasn't my ball python pooped?" I think it get's asked 3 or 4 times a week...

Nothing really gets me on the forums, We were all noobs at one point or another. I understand that the "is this a morph" thread gets annoying BUT everyone on this forum at one point or another was unable to identify some morph out there. Heck there was a time when Brian or Adam or any of those guys couldn't either. I just read them, reply if I have something to chime in on and if not move on. It's just a forum and I think people take it WAY to seriously.

This ^^^ is definitely one of my big ones. Which sort of goes along with folks who can't be bothered with learning things themselves, but must have every drop of information spoon-fed to them. If you really love these animals, then it should be a pleasure to spend as much time as you can reading about them and scouring pictures and just...absorbing.
Another thing that really bugs me is when folks whine and cry because someone isn't nice to them. I mean...it'd be GREAT if every answer was given with polite civility. But this is the real world, and that just isn't going to happen. Some people just aren't skilled at being patient and diplomatic....some people get a charge out of being irritating. But either way...just deal with it and grow a slightly thicker skin....please. ;)

I don't agree with that 100%. I know that when i am trying to figure out what morph to buy its a hard decision. There are tons of combinations out there, and for someone just getting into breeding and not knowing what makes what picking out there first morph could be hard. Maybe they should do their research before they start breeding or maybe they just want someones opinion because they are torn between their choices. I know I spend countless hours browsing morph photos and trying to figure out what makes what and what I want to get next. I am always asking other what they like or what they would get if they were in my shoes. Just because they ask doesn't mean that they are going to follow the will of the people, Maybe they just want to see what everyone else would do in their shoes.

A good point....my thoughts weren't clarified enough. I certainly understand folks wanting to consult on important decisions they are trying to make. But the guys with $xxx to spend who want a morph just for the sake of having a morph without really knowing anything about them and showing no inclination to put in the time and effort to learn.....that's what bugs me.
And given what I said, it may look like it bothers me when newbies ask questions....and that's not true at all. Heck, it's why I live and breathe BP.net....so they can come and ask them. I don't even mind the same questions over and over again because I know a site as big and busy as this one is can seem very overwhelming to someone unfamiliar with it and the search function may not seem as friendly as it does to us veterans.
I guess it all just depends on the attitude. Is someone passionate about the animals and wanting to learn? Or is it a passing fancy that they can't be bothered to spend much time working on, even if they want to spend big bucks on fancy paint jobs.

Now....Big GUnns wants people to take a second look at this complaint.
You can find all the information you need on anything reptile related somewhere on the net. There is no need AT ALL to go to this or any other forum to get it. It's actually probably a bad idea to get info from a forum. It would be much better to go a a big breeders site or e-mail one directly.
People should stop bashing the people that don't use the "search" button in Big Gunns opinion(the only one that matters). They are usually newbies that want some personal service, and to have some interaction on the forum. The people that always complain about this are the old time forum losers like Big Gunns that are sick of answering the same question. Just don't answer it anymore. Let someone else.
A forum is there to interact with other people and get information....not just for information. LEAVE THE MY NEWBIES ALONE. Big Gunns needs them to survive. They don't know him yet.:D

That makes sense and I agree, people need to make the effort and put tin the time if they are that interested in buying said morph

Heck when I started here it was the first time I had ever visited any type of forums ever. I can understand not knowing where the search function is. It can be annoying seeing the same threads but heck, It happens and people have questions, Its much easier for a forum noob to just post a new thread than it is to try find something on a forum.

These forums would be pretty slow if the same questions werent asked over and over again..... I bet every question asked has already been asked more than a few times....... Isnt that what forums are for?
LOL...think about it...What peeves you about forums? "The questions being asked"..... thats funny

Hmm, what gets my goat? I think I bbq'd my goat ....woops  lol
It takes a lot to get me worked up, I'm pretty docile.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
1. People who don't even attempt to use the search function or try to find information on their own first (the spoon-feeding thing).
2. People who do nothing but antagonize others.
Those are the big ones. There are others, probably, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Oh...one really big thing that gets under my skin....probably faster than anything else....
...is when some folks make off-the-wall wild-assed assumptions about the staff's reasons or motivations behind some of the decisions we make or actions we take around here. Stuff comes out of left-field that has absolutely no basis in reality, but is spoken as if it is some sort of absolute truth. When the integrity of the staff is openly questioned for no other reason than because someone doesn't like something we said or did.... Yeah....that'll get me revved up. :irkd:
-
Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
Heh,
Somedays nothing, somedays everything.
It seems to be tied in some mysterious way to my whisky/sleep quotient.
Like almost everyone else I asked all the noob questions and argued with the responses so I try really hard not to let that one get to me.
Sometimes the way something has been worded in a persons post can cause me to rain down terrible celtic curses on their ancestors haircuts but at that point I try to take a break before actually trying to post anything.
I find it cuts down the number of rewrites. :taz:
Misunderstanding someone, or being misunderstood, is probably the most frustrating thing I find about forums in general though.

come on you know its always been staff vs members around here, we all know that you just go around and delete and re-write post so when we go back and read it everything looks in your favor. ;)

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?
-People getting off topic and arguing
-People not answering a question someone asked, but rather blabber on about something else - that doesn't help the OP at all
-Negativity towards one another
