A feeding question
I've had my ball for about 7 months now. When I first got him, he was around 18 inches long maybe 90g or less. I feed him large mice every week. Now hes around 402g-480g. He's gotten pretty thick since then (It's pretty cute. :3) But what I'm trying to say is, When do I start feeding him once every 2 weeks? I don't want to do the stupid error of over feeding the poor guy. :(
Thanks :)

Re: A feeding question
I would move to every 10-14 days once the snake hits 1000g or so. 400g is still a growing snake!

Re: A feeding question
All of my adults are still fed every week - I just feed smaller meals weekly and they all eat consistently, except for those in the breeding rotation.

Re: A feeding question
My BP is around 1100grams at the moment. I still feed him weekly, every Saturday. He still eats 4-5 adult mice every time. I don't force him to eat them either, I just ofer them and he swallows them right up.
Big pig if you ask me!
I don't think you can really 'over-feed' a snake if you're simply offering food to it. I'd never force a snake to eat unless it was a life or death situation.

You should go to rats if he is eating that much! It would be more filling for him and cheaper on you!

Re: A feeding question
I have a pastel ball that I have had since 1st week of september finally got him to eat on Oct 15th I had to place him and a hopper in a brown bag in his cage I have had to do this twice now I left the hopper in the tank for about 3 hrs nothing put in bag took it in about 30mins. Will I have to feed him this way from now on? Or will he grow out of it. The Ball is in a 10 gallong tank with 2 small hides a water bowl and a humid hide temp around 87:rofl:

Re: A feeding question
Personally, I have an almost yearling male bp who's ~400-500 grams and I feed him small rats once every 10-12 days. I would feed him rat pups once a week, but he doesn't take frozen-thawed and the store I get his meals from has small adult mice, then small to large rats.

I've tried but he's being rediculously picky and refuses to eat the rats I offer!
I do wish he'd start eating rats though, it'd be soooo much easier! lol

Re: A feeding question
is it possible to over-feed a BP? i just throw a rat in there and he eats it. i havent seen him refuse yet. even during his shed

Re: A feeding question
i was wondering the same thing. can u over feed your BP? cuz ive started out feeding my yearling 1 mouse and over the past month have upped it to three mice because she seems like she wants more. and now even at three she still is real aggressive after the third mouse.

Yes! It is possible. There is something called power feeding where a breeder feeds the snake every 2-4 days in order to get them up to breeding weight. IMO, it is an unhealthy practice for the snake. The most often I would feed is every 5 days. Any less than that can lead to health complications in the future.

Same! One of my dogs is so obese. He would happily eat himself to death and I often catch him finishing off my other dogs dinners. It can't be because hes hungry because he gets a large ammount himself. Animals don't know when their next meal is coming, our snakes dont know we have a freezer full of mice/rats so I guess they take what they are given so they have a fat storage incase of emergancy.

Re: A feeding question
Power feeding is when you put another feeder in the snakes mouth as it is finished the first one.
Feeding every 2-4 days is not considered power feeding unless you are feeding the snake more than it actually wants to eat.
At least, this is what I was lead to believe.
