Re: My new female Suriname!
Sorry just learning about boas, but is a Suriname a BCC or BCI?
I would love to have a boa as a pet, but I been holding back because of my BPs, wondering alot if I should risk it or not, but Im almost to the point where Im ready to get one and never Look back.
I love the Peruvian and Brasilian true red tails colors. Also this one the Suriname. :gj: Beautiful Boa!

Didnt even see this til now.. Surinams are BCC. (true redtails) Guyana and Suriname Boas are BCC. Im also getting a surinam. He's paid for but im waiting on shipping. Problem with many BCC is they are not pure blood BCC anymore. People are mixing them with BCI and losing the distinct qualities of the true redtail's. If you get one be sure you know what to look for to tell them from BCI and only buy from a well known breeder who does not mix the bloodlines.
BCC can sometimes have more of an attitude than BCI but really its all in how you raise them. If you get a BCC just handle it often and use long feeding tongs during feeding time so you dont get accidentally bitten. They are beautiful.

Yeah, tongs or hemostats are a must, and when she gets bigger I am going to start hook training her, just so down the road I have no issues taking out a nice 8ft female that may weigh over 20lbs. When they are that size they gotta know the difference between handling and picture taking and food time.
Also, I plan to keep this girl on rats, eventually working up to jumo rats and just keep at that. I don't want a monster 10footer, so really no need to go to rabbits. She is taking f/t like a champ so now I just need her to switch over to rats (shes been on small mice for about 5-8 meals), which I am going to do this week. And I am feeding her slow (every 7 days). I've heard this is important or you can risk regurgitation, which will really stunt her growth.
Re: My new female Suriname!
Nice big tail on that one and a good colorful blush to the rest of her. Awesome.

She's beautiful! Congrats on the pick-up! I'd love to own a boa one day, but as long as I'm keeping pythons, I'll just admire everyone else's!
