Feeding fast poll:
What is the longest hunger strike you have had? Explain.:snake::snake:

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Mona went off feed for over 2 months, from August 11th until last week. It was most likely due to a temperature drop, followed by 5 weeks of breeding with Toby... but I guess the activity got her appetite going, because she's pounded multiple mice in the last two feedings. I was only offering mice because I figured she'd reject them (and my others only eat mice), so next week she'll get a nice big rat. :gj:

Re: Feeding fast poll:
I had 2 females that went off feed for just over 3 months temps were right they both have 2 hides one on each side same as the other 10 ball pythons that I have they just refused to eat I still offered them food every 7 days. They only lost about 20 grams so it wasn't too bad but the others gained hundereds of grams so it really sucks they are way behind now but both are back on feed eating every 7 days again so I am hoping they will make weight next year.

Re: Feeding fast poll:
I had my normal male go off feed as a juvie for 3-4 months. At the time I hadn't realized his cage was just too big for him and he was uncomfortable (he was my 1st bp and I was still learning). I still feel a bit bad for not knowing better at the time :(. He was an off and on feeder until he hit adult hood, now he doesn't fast much at all. (maybe skip a week or two once in a while)
My pastel male just got off about a 3 month fast and is feeding heavily :)

4 months. My girls are complete opposites; Cu is a terrible feeder and goes on frequent hunger strikes, but Prospekt has never missed a meal. And then there's Sangre...

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Female that did not eat for 9 months, not breeding at the time, not being cooled, perfect conditions just decided not to eat.

Re: Feeding fast poll:
My first BP is now a little over 3 years old. The past 2 years he has eaten his last rat about Thanksgiving and hasn't eaten again until the end of March. 4 months.

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Well, the feeding strike wasn't exactly from a Ball python, but from a Dumeril's boa. The Dumeril's boa I purchased back in November last year ('08) refused for 2 months, but finally ate a live rat pinkie. It took me 5 or 6 months to switch her over to F/T, but she finally took it.

Re: Feeding fast poll:
I had a female BP who went on an 11 month strike with me. Why? No idea. I thought she had forgotten what rodents where. One day out of the blue, I threw her a rat and BAM she was took it. After that she was ate every week for me again.

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Usually captive bred ball pythons don't go off feed unless breeding or on the coldest months of the year which are december & january...I read this in an article but it was only 60% that stayed feeding...my pastel never fast but I don't know about my normal this is going to be its first winter with me so wish me good luck!

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Both of them or on a good 5 day schedule, and hasn't missed a meal. I don't how I will act if they decide to fast. Will I freak out, because I think I'm doing something wrong, and now they are close to death, or would I be happy from saving a few bucks on their food?

Re: Feeding fast poll:
Cant really explain why.. Like another person said. I have a female that has no set schedule at all. As far as she is concerned, she only eats when she is good and ready. She will eat as much as i offer for months. Then for no reason she will just stop eating for awhile.
It has nothing to do with the seasons or breeding either. She does this randomly. Always has. For 7 years now. Ive just givin up on trying to figure her out.
