What do you use to take pictures!!!!!!
For everything. Camera/ settings, lighting, light tents, background etc. I have two cameras one is pretty good i think but i can never take good pictures inside. IDK how to get good lighting in my ghetto light tent. I put lights up to it and it made no difference then just being in regular room light.... help me!

The good camera i have is a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS? It takes great pictures outside but I cant get good ones indoors.

I use a Nikon D60 DSLR with an 18-55mm vsr lens.
Light tent is a Pro studio: white back ground, and 2 100w cool halogen 5200K photo lights.

As for the setting typically I like an aperture of 5.6 at 18mm.
On board flash set to auto (the nikon allows you to adjust the strength of the flash..

    Turns out shots like theses

Easy breezy.. just takes learning how your camera works and what setting work best in what light.

I tried with like three CFL lights. Im not sure of the wattage at the moment and I have to get off the computer soon but im not sure how to do all that lense stuff and alot of the settings wont let me use macro mode, and when theres lights on in the light tent the flash wont go off. I have no idea how to do the lense stuff though.
    Your pictures look really good.

I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT with the Kit 18-55mm Lens, Set on Automatic Macro.

    Yep. Thats it.

Then i just use photoshop to sharpen, and then sometimes auto correct the color. MAYBE play with the brightness and contrast if my flash was waaaay too bright.

Im a REALLY lazy photographer, with a probably too expensive camera for how i take pictures. But at least i have more control over them than i usually had. :) Thats all i care about.

Here is what I have found to be the simplest setup for decent photos...

First, you need a peice of posterboard (Micheals or any craft store), preferrably glossy in white or black. They do have a chrome posterboard that has a mirror effect that is decent also. Then lean it against a wall like a skate ramp (use some sort of weight to hold it in place), underneath a light that points down. Make sure to use a bright white light to keep the color as natural as possible. Finally, I set my D70 on auto without the speed flash and end up with pretty good photos! I never adjust the color or the light. I just crop them and they are ready to roll!:)
    The photo area....

To clarify for those that dont know... Speedflash is a seperate light set-up that you can put on your camera. I use the built-in flash and donot attach my speedflash...

I got white glossy posterboard for the "backdrop" in my "light tent" even with lights on and a light inside the tent when i took the pic the posterboard looked yellowish even when its not even that dark in person or in light.

I use a Nikon D40, stock lense and a seperate speedlight.

I like the speedlight because you can angle the flash anywhere you want and it doesnt cause glare or over exposure from flash. Also has a built in diffuser.

For the back ground, I use a couple different color bed sheets. Works really well.

1 Part Canon PowerShot 8 Megapixel Camera
    1 Part White Background (generally)
    2 Parts 4200K Lights
    1 Part Ball Python
and last but certainly not least
    20 Parts Luck.

In all it takes me 25 individual pieces to take a decent picture :P.

Download GIMP. It's a good editor software. Got a lot of the tools Photoshop have. The one you will probably use the most is Auto Color or Auto White Balance :)

    Camera:
    Canon 20D

    Lens:
Different lens for different stuff I use the Tamron 24-135mm Macro allot lately, but the 90mm f2.8 Macro is tack sharp & a better lens. I've just been to lazy to swap it over.

    Light:
Sunlight whenever possible, I have used Tungsten (which sucks), but now use halogen & reveal lights when the sun isn't an option.

    Set-up:
I have a light box made out of serilight lids, but it depends on how handy it is.

    Settings:
I've switched between Macro & AP settings but am starting to play with the exposure settings too... often I find if I'd had the higher ISO slower shutter speeds, I'll get what I want.

Your default Macro will give you great detail, but is light hungry- you need allot of light for the flash not to go off. I hate my built in & want a speed-light which I can control better.

Sunlight shot, Macro setting, diffused flash:

    Same snake/day different light:

I dabble with other types of photography & even work doing portraits part of the year for the last 3 years. Working in a studio environment is fun, but there's not the flexibility you have for varying situations. Each situation has it's own rules.

Since I just got into photographing my snakes I don't have a lightbox or anything set up yet. I just used a black sweater on my bed w/ the room light turned on. Camera is a Kodak Easyshare Z740.

Use outside light, by a window for white-background pictures, or for black background it doesn't matter as much.

    I use a Sony SLR 330.
