Is it normal for babies to want to bite everything possible?
I just got a 1 month old female lesser and she wants to do nothing but bite me! i've left her alone to get comfortable in her new home but even when i go up to the glass to look at her she does the whole 'S' shaped neck thing and then eventually lunges! its actually quite comical but i was also concerned that this girl is gonna be a handful when time to feed/clean.. so i guess the question is.. will she grow outta it?
thanks!
Re: Is it normal for babies to want to bite everything possible?
how long have you had her?
how is your temps?
does she have proper hides?
how big of tank?
are 3 sides of the tank covered or just open?
is she eating fine?
Re: Is it normal for babies to want to bite everything possible?
husbandry is fine.. only had her for a couple of days
Re: Is it normal for babies to want to bite everything possible?
if your husbandry is fine put her in, cover the tank and leave her be for a week. She needs time to adjust to her new environment and as far as she is concerned you are the jolly green giant looking to eat her.
I have had my bee for about 3 weeks now and though he eats like a monster he is still very timid.

if your husbandry is fine and you have only had her a few days she is probally just stressed out.
give her a week to settle in.

If my hatchlings didn't try to bite me I'd be concerned :P

I agree. All of my hatchling have a hair trigger. They want to eat, to grow as quickly as possible, in order to be less of a target for predators. Also they think everything is a threat.

Yup. They are babies. All baby balls are very skittish and hungry. If it moves, it's a target.

thanks guys you made me feel alot better... this actually leads me to another question... do you guys feed semi-hatchlings more often... i have 2 at the moment and i KNOW they will take a rat like every 3 days.. i know its not right, but is it ok or should i still stay on my every sunday schedual?

All hatchlings are nippy but they will grow out of it. I feed mine every 4 days.

I feed mine on a 5 day schedule but he probaly would take it a day or two earlier but in my opinion, that is powerfeeding! If she attacks everything then I would feed her now then leave her completely alone for 5 days then feed again!
Re: Is it normal for babies to want to bite everything possible?
Yeah, two of my new babies (Mojave & het Albino) wanted to bite everything in sight when I first got them. I left them completely alone for a week, fed, and waited for the digestion... then I started handling them daily, whether or not they liked it. After about a month of this, I'm happy to say they are completely different snakes! Still a little jumpy, but neither make any strike attempts now, and actually seem to "enjoy" coming out & slithering around my arms. So don't worry, most of them will outgrow it with regular handling. Some snakes are just jerks, though. :P
