The flu is goin' around--read
Just want to give this topic a shout out 'cause tons of people I know are getting the flu and I think I'm even coming down with it so just wanna tell you guys to always wash your hands before and after everything you do (even after handling the reptiles, especially. You don't want Salmonella AND the flu LOL.. don't think that is possible though?) and stay clean.
There are so many sick kids at my school that I'm acting like a total germaphobe LOL so really always wash your hands and stay clean, I know non of you wanna be sick because it really sucks LOL.

If you don't feel well there are some awesome sites to check out earthclinic.com and http://www.planetherbs.com/index.php...=com_fireboard ;) hope you fight it off .

Just getting over it... LOL. :P I started getting sick last Sunday, and was feeling like poop all last week. Still have a lingering cough & sniffly nose, but otherwise I'm on the mend. I don't take anything or get the flu shot, since it seems pointless to me - a few glasses of "Emergen-C" every day (while sick) does enough. It doesn't really get rid of the symptoms, but lessens the overall duration of most colds/flus. :gj: Hope you don't catch it, Tiffany!

I had the 'normal' flu almost a month ago already. I don't know if that'll give me extra antibodies against the swine flu or not, but I can hope. Both of my boys go to the same high school and they installed those Hand Sanitizer dispensers outside every classroom at the beginning of the year. I thought that sounded like a good idea, I guess most of the kids use em too.

Today I picked up my brothers kids after school and all I could think is man they smell like hand sanitizer .:O I wonder what affect this will have on all the germs that survive ? Will it be similar to the antibiotics overload?

Re: The flu is goin' around--read
Nope, normal flu and normal flu shots will not confer any immunity against H1N1. H1N1 is unique because it's a new strain that no one has immunity to. Thankfully, while it might kill off some otherwise healthy adults, it doesn't really kill MORE people than normal influenza does, so the chance that it will kill you is pretty remote. Treat it basically like any other influenza, if you catch it, but go to a doc if you get severe respiratory symptoms or it doesn't get better quickly enough.
I had heard they were supposed to have a flu shot out for it sometime this month.

I don't know, but I'm obsessive with my hand sanitizer... especially with the variety of animals I handle daily. I also got addicted to that stuff in my public library jobs, since you wouldn't believe the dirtiness I encountered every day - from both the books and the patrons. Doesn't seem to overload me, far as I can tell, since I get sick an average number of times (about 1-2 times a year).

Re: The flu is goin' around--read
Hand sanitizer kills off a large quantity of bacteria, the ones that are left then have no competition for resources and your typical bacterial generation is 20 minutes or so. If you use the Hand Sanitizer you are making the resistant bacteria more likely to reproduce. Hence all you are doing is growing strong bacteria.
Welcome to how MRSA and other resistant diseases came about. They wouldn't be out like they are now if we didn't get so picky about how clean we make everything. We just keep giving them more and more room to reproduce in.

Re: The flu is goin' around--read
best thing is plenty of liquids, clear broths (homemade chicken soup is the best) emergen-C, herbal tea with honey and lemon (honey is a natural antibotic) and the acidity of lemon helps kill of some germs and bacteria in your system. As for those hand sanitizers, over doing it with them actually kills any good bacteria that lives on your body that is there to protect you. hope you don't get it, but you have natural ways to fight it if you do get it and shorten its duration. My husband and son are just getting over/fighting it at the moment. Plus my son developed bronchitis with it, so its been peachy here. :D

Re: The flu is goin' around--read
A tip that works for me. Keep you bodies PH high by eating lots of chocolate and Orange juice. Or anything with lots of vit C.
Makes it so the flue cant live in your body. If you do get the flu it will be so mild you will hardly notice it.
My wife and son just got over the flu. Lasted them about 4days. Both were bed ridden. I got a 1 degree rise in my temperature but felt fine.

I'm sure they are worried about more important things. I was just stating that once it gets in the jail, it gets around pretty quick.

I've been drinking TONS of orange juice so maybe that's why I haven't really been feeling THAT sick, but still feel neacious (sp?). It's like on and off though, but normally at night (for some reason) the neasia is like really bad.
Hopefully it'll be over soon LOL.

I haven't caught the flu, but I caught a cold. I forgot how much I hate being sick :(
My boyfriend and I are planning on getting the H1N1 shot. We have plans, but who knows if we'll actually go out and do it. I've never gotten the flu shot, but I'm thinking it might be time to start doing it, maybe next season. I'd rather pay $25 than feel like crap for 5-6 days.
Anyone else have plans on getting the H1N1 shot? Do you think you'll really do it?

Do I have the flu if I've been feeling nauseous since Saturday last week? The nausea is like on and off but it gets kinda bad at night but I have no clue why I'm feeling this way..:tears:

Re: The flu is goin' around--read
Just thought this was funny and decided to throw this out there...
So, we were planning on getting the H1N1 shot. My BF called Kaiser earlier today and apparently they're only giving the shot to children ages of 6 months - 18 years old, or an adult that has an infant of 6 months or younger. So much for precaution.
Tiff, you'll know when you have the flu. I personally have never had it, but I don't think it causes nausea for a week without any other symptoms.

I dunno... kids can be awfully stubborn, and incredibly forgetful! You could tell them something 1000 times, and they'll still play dumb the next time you remind them.

I had pnemonia all of august, sucked! I have barely been healthy a month and now have a nasty cold. But I always get sick when the season changes :(. My moms work developed cold-fx. the stuff does work. it doesnt cure anything rather it boosts your immune system and will make a cold or flu less harsh and make it go away quicker. If you are lucky enough and can tell you are about to get sick (slightly sore throat, tired etc) and take it it can prevent it from becoming a cold or flu. I have prevented it myself a few times with this stuff. Wasnt so lucky this time as I didnt have any around and by the tme I got to the store it was too late, I was sick. It is kinda expensive but you get what you pay for. I also find lots of garlic helps too.

i asked my g/f about that they didnt offer her one yet(hospice), but some of the hospitals have offered them.
from what i have read there is quite a bit of questions raised about the safety of the shot and the little time of testing.
especially after the 2004 tainted vaccines http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...NG5O9JIJQ1.DTL
and there was already "mishaps" with this one http://www.therightperspective.org/2...nt-as-vaccine/
seriously if there ends up to be an issue with the vaccine and all the heath workers took it then what might i ask would happen? not only that but look at all the kids from about 2 years old to what college SR. and the elderly
