Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
Here's an invite for you to post some of your unusual hatchlings this season. Here are three of ours. Comments welcome.
This is a lesser produced from a lesser x normal pairing that almost looks axanthic. We're holding on to her. We don't expect that she's really an axanthic, we just like her unusual coloration.

Here's a strange pastel that we got from our lemon pastel x lemon pastel pairing. At first he was odd enough that we thought he might be a super, but now, we just think he's a weird pastel.

This is a picture of the same weird pastel after only one shed next to our super lemon.

This little girl was from a het pied x het pied pairing. When she pipped, we thought "low white pied" because of her markings. Well, if she's pied, she's the first ever NO-white pied. So, we think that she's got some weird het thing going on or that she's just a really unusual normal. She's very small, and she's having shed problems. We're working with our exotic animal vet (who calls her "peanut") to keep her healthy.

I like Peanut a lot! Actually there have been at least 2 no white pieds that I have seen before.
All of them are really cool!

Thanks!
I had no idea about the "no-white pieds." That's so bizarre!

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
My guess is that the Lesser is a higher contrasted Lesser -- but a Lesser none the "Lesser". :D When the darker base color is really dark it can make the lighter color look more harsh/lighter.
Love that flamey Pastel -- way COOL!!!

They are all sweet looking :gj:.I really like peanuts wild looks

I can! Peanut has my vote. She is just too cute:rolleyes: If you ever think of parting with her, keep me in mind. I have a thing for creatures that start out disadvantaged.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
Theyre all amazing but I really like peanut and the pastel too.... no white pied! I like it. And people think low white pieds are a bad thing? no white pieds look good to me.

Look for small white crescents on her sides where the pattern meets the belly & an all white belly. I suspect she is pied. But it could be a random odd thing. Here's an extreme low-white girl I have here. The only white she has is at the upper right in the photo:

Belly shot (different Pied)- does your girl's look like this?:

Nope, she has some random checkerboarding (see below). That's why we thought probably some odd het thing going on or just a weird normal. I was just joking about the no-white pied thing. Glad to be corrected--that there actually are some.

man that pastel is amazing.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
I love peanut! What a cutie!
That's exactly the reason why I much perfer low white pieds. I love the distorted pattern, it looks way cool! Congrats on hatching her, whatever she may be!
Here to hoping she pulls through for you!

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
Wow... I LOVE that first one! If you ever get tired of her, I'd be happy to take her off your hands. :D
Peanut is a cutie too, of course, and that pastel is super weird in a cool way... I'd call him a blurry pastel, if it turned out to be a genetic morph. :) Just a thought (from a complete newbie), but could Peanut be some kind of "extreme paradox" normal/pied? Because the belly doesn't look like a pied, but the rest does - odd for sure.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
I really do like the markings of your "weird" pastel. I am drawn to unusual colora or markings on a BP. Peanut is cute as a button.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
They look very cool no doubt! But they remind me of what a clutch looks like that has had a rough incubation, and infact the belly shot of one of the snakes is the biggest piece of evidence.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
Very pretty snakes! Especially Peanut, she is just too cute!

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
I think they are all awesome...congrats!

that and the possible pied looks to have kinks

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
I was thinking the wierd coloration and markings could be from incubation problems/temp swings.

That makes good sense. The clutch was good, but her egg was very small and veins were threadlike and barely visible. Her egg was under a larger egg and it slowly deflated during incubation. We didn't know if this egg was going to make it, but we incubated anyway. Temp is static at 87 and humidity 85 or above, but this egg didn't seem to be getting proper gas exchange. We've had hundreds hatch out of this incubator--haven't lost one yet.
Next time we'll try flossing it away from the others although gas exchange should still occur between eggs--or perhaps it was just the poor venous system. Thanks for your observation.

The vet observed some compression pinching in the x-rays, but said she should outgrow it, and that it didn't look like fusing that he sees in some animals. The parents have been a breeding pair for several years and haven't produced anything but healthy offspring. Good observation though, thanks.

That weird het. pied looks a bit like the lava from urban pythons.

Re: Unusual Hatchlings (pics)
Is it just me or does peanut have some mild kinking going on. Well not kinking per say but in the first pic you posted if you follow her dorsal stripe down her back you can see thats shes lumpy? I guess thats what I am trying to say lol. And the same in the belly shot pic her sides are not a gradual curve but rather multiple small lumpy curves. Shes very pretty though and I am sure it just the camera angle or her flexing her buffness lol.

I dont know if its kinking but she does look lumpy in some spots. maybe its just because shes having trouble getting started as it is? Just all around problems.
Still, hopefully nothing to bad but she looks amazing.
