I have my second degree black belt. You should really stick with it as long as you can, as it is a very rewarding experience. Plus it's kind of nice knowing that you will be able to defend yourself if the situation ever calls for it. (hopefully it won't)

    Good luck on your test!

Oh wow we have some black belts! Congrats, guys.

I'm a freshman in high school and my school has a taekwondo program that I'm planning on following through with for the next 4 years. I'm hoping to be a black belt first degree decided by the time I graduate.

One of my college friends was a 3rd(? I believe) degree "blue belt" (equivalent of black belt) in a korean martial art I believe is spelled Soo Bahk Do.

We did Aikido and a couple other japanese martial arts for a bit together, I didn't keep up with it for financial/time reasons after college. It was tons of fun though

Kung Fu guy here. Or used to be before an injury forced me to stop. Kung Fu doesn't have a belt system but my teacher said I would be a step above black belt. I was a rank 3 student. One more level and I could have be sanctioned to teach.

Oh, specifically, it was a Hung Gar style. Lowest horse stance on the planet. :)

    One more thing.

I hope you are taking traditional TKD. The commercialzed version is crap. More TKD people these days don't know what to do if someone get past their legs.

Okay guys, I need some black belt assistance here. Tomorrow is the official testing day for me to become a yellow belt. The questions I'm prepared to answer are:

What is the name of your form? Ki bone. (unsure of the spelling)

What is the meaning of Taekwondo? The art of foot and fist.

What is the meaning of your belt? A newly planted seed/innocence.

What is the meaning of your form? Basic foundation.

How many kihaps are in your form? 2.

How many steps are in your form? 16.

    How many one-steps? 3.

Are there any more things I need to know or you suggest I know?

Taekwondo is ok, but in terms of actual fighting, it's one of the least effective.

Now don't go saying things like that. No one martial art is truly better then another. It all depends on what works for you. I have tried a handful of different martial arts, each with very different approaches to fighting, and some of them I just had a better natural understanding for. If Tae Kwon Do is something that works for you and you really put your heart into it then you will be as good as someone that puts their heart into Muay Thai or Kung Fu.

It's all about the individual's drive and passion. Martial Arts is a way of life. Those of us that chose this lifestyle should never criticize other styles of martial arts - we can learn a lot from each other. Regardless of style, those that live martial arts should all be allies!

Good luck with your yellow belt test abuja! The only advice I can give you is this: don't spend a lot of time worrying about impressing whomever is testing you - do it for yourself. The only way to prove to your instructor that you are worthy of the next belt level is by first proving it to yourself!

We did Taekwondo for 5 months as a family (5 of us). Got up to working on orange belt. Had to drop out when I found my wife wasn't paying many of the bills because Taekwondo was costing us about $700 per month when you factored in the belt tests every 2 months and drinks we bought there!!! I also dislocated my left knee (which I've done before and figured it would happen sooner or later) in a Saturday morning class with repeated spinning moves. I was out 2 weeks and got back into it slowly.

It was a great experience and I'd do it again if we had the money. I might try another teacher though. Ours was a 5th degree black belt from Korea who taught Taekwondo to the Korean military, but I never totally trusted him. It seemed they were mostly in it for the money.

I did martial arts for a bit, but that was a long time ago. I don't remember how to do any moves or anything anymore LOL. Not sure what style of fighting I did, but I'm guessing Taekwondo or something similar.

I got up to purple belt, and my brother was a blue belt. I skipped a tournament because I didn't really feel like performing that day, but sometimes I wish I could have.

Won't know until thursday, I think.

But my black belt friend who was also a judge said I did great, so I suppose I am now a yellow belt. :D

If you believe that. Some things are better then others. A lot of it depends on the person though.
