Unfortunately through the years he did get a pretty bad burn, recovered fine but you can still see some heavy scar tissue :(
No set feeding schedual anymore he just eats whenever he wants which ranges from 1-3 medium/large rats a month for about 4 months out of the year and fasts for most of the other time and his home is a 48x18x20 enclosure.
if your really feeding him medium or large rats i would venture off and say thats why he fasts so much

Nice. I have a female I got a while back that has some heavy scaring on her back. Probably from a heat lamp of something. You boy look nice and healthy. I love seeing the bigger males. You don't see them very often.:gj::gj:

Really. I feed some of my snakes a med rat a week. Then again my med here are more like small but they never fast. I do have a few picky eaters but I doubt its due to what they eat when they finally do. I am assuming you have experience with this if so I am actually interested in hearing about it. I love learning new things. :)

He looks very good for 12 years old!!! I always say, do whatever works best for both the animal and yourself. If he's used to eating like that, then continue doing so. Everyone has different ways and methods when it comes to keeping and feeding reptiles. Keep up the good work. He looks fablous!

Thanks :) He's my baby, have had him the longest out of all my pets, closest to him is a chilean rose tarantula I've had for 8 years, don't know how old she was when I got her but she was definitely mature.

You must've done something right, because he looks great! :gj: Imo, normals are the greatest.
Re: as requested, 12 year old normal male pix
Thanks, lots of book reading before getting him since I didn't have the internet back then, that and a really helpful store owner who had the patience to deal with me :D

There is no problem feeding medium or large rats.
My male who is at 11-12 year old eat a medium or large rat every 7 weeks. And that, all year long, he might skip a meal once in a while but so far he is alwas eating. Same for some of my big female medium or large rats.
Actually, I feed all my breeding size female medium rats and so far, they are all eating.

looks great
I also feed all my adult balls large rats and never had a problem. My male will even take rabbit pups sometimes
Re: as requested, 12 year old normal male pix
I usually feed my adults mediums, but they're eating larges right now because RodentPro has a big sale on them. Of course, I think RodentPro's sizes are bit scaled down. Still the larges are pretty good-sized rats.
Putting some last weight on them at the start of the breeding season here. Some of them will no doubt go off feed in the next month or so. Getting these big rats into them will really make a difference for the females on the smaller end of the scale. They've had 2 in a row now, and show no signs of thinking it's too much food. <lol>
It IS the 'feeding season'.
