    BP mites
How big are they? My BP has very very small black specs on the underside of his head. They are definitely not moving. Could this be mites. If someone has a good pic that would give me a size reference that would be great.

    Hi,

The size refference most often used is the size of the period at the end of this sentence.

Also check around his eyes and in his heatpits.

Good Idea. I keep it around because I use it regularly to prevent mites instead of just treating them...

Yup, keep pam around and use it monthly to quarterly. When I get a new snake I spray them down and wipe them off as well as spray down the box and bag it came in.

You should NEVER apply Provent A Mite directly to the snake - EVER. It's even a warning on the can.

A VERY light misting of the tub to pre-treat it, and allowed to dry completely is all you need for preventative maintenance.

Ah, I use "De Flea Reptile Relief" from reptile basics, which says on it to spray on the reptile.

OK - that you can apply directly on the snake. I hate the smell of it though. And it doesn't have any residual effects to kill any mites that may hatch 30 days later.

Provent A Mite lasts through the entire mite life cycle, and will kill any hatching mites 30 days later.

Yeah I was just looking at that. I may order some because of that. I've never had mites and I have been using this stuff since I got my rack, as Reptile Basics sells it as their mite killer. And I agree about the smell :/
