    Sexing a ball python
I know you can either sex or probe your bp to find the sex. I have 2 bps one from pets mart (supposedly a female) one from pet co (supposedly a male). I would like to sex them and find out for sure. They are about 2-3 months old. Are they too old to "pop" them? Should I try to probe them myself? I have watched many a snake been popped and probed. Or should I find a vet to probe them?

Never too old for popping. If you don't know how to probe or pop, then find someone to help you out. You can do damage by doing it wrong.

I'm in the sane boat as Elizabeth. I'm scared I might not do it right and end up hurting my snakes. Is there a video that shows how to do it?

I found a GREAT popping tutorial vid that we used to learn how to pop them. It does take a few tries, and you may have to refer back to it a few times, but it does the job!

    YouTube - Ball Python Male

The important points: basically, you put your thumb RIGHT at the cloaca--not any further back, or it won't work.
Pull the tail back--don't worry, as long as you're reasonably gentle, no harm is done.
Roll the side of your thumb along the tail toward the cloaca. I found this to be much easier, and to work more reliably than some methods where the thumb is simply slid toward the snake's cloaca.

Snakes are fairly sturdy--you would have to press quite hard to injure them. It doesn't take a lot of force to pop a snake, it's more about using the correct technique.

Here are a few more good ones:

I tried to pop my snakes today and I couldn't get anything to pop out. Do you pull back on the cloacae?

I can't believe the snakes don't get upset by this kind of manipulation...they look so calm!
