Ultramel!
Can't believe it! Makes me wish I knew how to take better photographs. Had to take pics because I've got to stop harassing the little guy just to look at him. The colors are amazing.

Re: Ultramel!
The Ultramel is so hot! Congrads on swooping one of those up.Is the ultramel a recessive gene?
-
Re: Ultramel!
Looks like either the best line of Caramel to ever exist, or it's probably a Caramel + something else. But that's just my guess. Perhaps a caramel ghost?
-
Re: Ultramel!
holy ultraness!
that color is just insane! :gj:

The ultramel is a newer base morph...very similar to the caramel, but without the kinking issues caramels are known for.
-
Re: Ultramel!
Wait THAT'S a BASE morph!??!?!!??!?!
Holy gods of snakey genetics send me a dozen!
I guess this brings us back to is it Dom/Co-dom/Recessive?
-
Re: Ultramel!
thats stunning.. i wish people wouldnt keep posting pictures of nice snakes lol, makes me want more
-
Re: Ultramel!
Who is working with these, and what are their current prices? I've been wanting one for awhile, but never seen any for sale.

A base morph??
That seems so unlikely, but I guess it's true.
How much are Ultramels?

Re: Ultramel!
T+ without kinking defects?!!! Now I will have to add these to my list of must-haves!
-
Re: Ultramel!
Are they compatible with caramel?
-
Re: Ultramel!
The colors are so similar to caramel that I got hungry for sweets when i looked at it. :weirdface
-
Re: Ultramel!
They are very affordable! I think any of you could get one(if you can find one) for about $7000;). If I'm not mistaken it is a recessive gene.

Why does this seem unlikely? I'm curious to your reasoning.

Wow that is picture of my snake! He looks good!

Re: Ultramel!
VERY PRETTY animal and nice pick-up Maki. :) -- and your photos look good!
Not only are the Caramel and Ultramel different morphs -- they age differently. Also, while Noah has certainly made more than a few Ultramel combos -- he has not released any photos. Therefore, any ideas about their combos' appearance would be a guess at this point.
I would add that the Caramels kinking problems are without a doubt one of the BIGGEST threads/lines of misinformation/misperception in the hobby to date. ;)

I believe that the Caramel kinking is GENETIC and not incubation temp/humidity related.
Facts point to kinking being "somewhat" isolated to early line breeding by one of the founding Caramel lines. I am not comfortable naming the line. :colbert:
The bottom line as I see it is that common thought would have you believe/infers that every third visual Caramel/Caramel combo is a "bent in half TRAIN WRECK" I find this notion abjectly ABSURD!!!

Re: Ultramel!
Maki, did you produce that from Hets or buy it? I like it alot.....Great animal.

Re: Ultramel!
Thanks everyone!
I just LOVE him! The Ultramel is a new morph from Africa. It is a recessive trait. They have a resemblance to Caramel Albinos, but I think they have more vibrant color. This snake was produced by Noah in Africa and purchased from Eric Crider. It cost a lot.
The color and the lack of history of kinking made me decide to get into Ultramels. I don't know what causes the kinking in Caramel Albinos, but it was enough to scare me.
Ultramels are not compatible with regular Caramel Albinos, hence the distinction in names. Eric Crider has a line of Caramel Albinos that are not compatible with the others and look like Ultramels (per Eric). They may turn out to be the same as Ultramels...time will tell.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words and interest!

??
Really? Was this one of those at the Anaheim show?
I got it from Eric Crider and it was shipped to me this past week.
By the way, would you mind posting pics side by side of the Ultramel next to a Caramel Albino? I think we'd all find it very interesting. Thanks!

I have heard the same thing actually. I believe Ralph Davis talks about it one of his vids.

Re: Ultramel!
Look the kinking happens to Caramels specifically, so I don't see how anyone would assume it's caused by egg conditions (however in all balls this could be a problem, pay attention to your eggs, they're delicate).
The issue could very easily be bred out, provided it isn't caused by the same gene that causes them to be caramels, by simply breeding them to normal balls and not line breeding.
Also if you start feeling the need to line breed, try to seek a trade first, it's better for the snakes and it's better for the customers. It may be true that it can be done for 20 generations, but every time you line breed a snake you are strengthening small genetic abnormalities that snake may have, thus you have the ability to both create new morphs by doing this, or to create a snake with no lower jaw.
Obviously there are times where you cant easily create 8 generations before line breeding, when you have a new morph, but otherwise just mix it up and trade with the community or breed your snakes to some other line.

Re: Ultramel!
Nice Ultramel!!!
We have a female thats nearly up to breeding size, and she has kept her colour really well.
As for the prices, $7000 seems very expensive. We paid £2000 for ours , but they are going for around £2500 in the UK just now.
Gonna try and make a ghost ultramel.

Got lock ups right now between my 2007 Ultramel male and a 2006 POG - imagine the super pastel ultramel glow  :taz::banana:
Pretty excited - hope it doesn't show too much...
He's also locking up with a 2007 Ultramel female so hopefully high purple and yellow ultramels pipping next year!
I think the price is high in US due to relatively low availability as I understand Noah focussed more heavily on the European market initially.

Ditto! Gorgeous animal you got there Maki.

Re: Ultramel!
Why are they called ultramels? that name is a portmanteau of the Ultra and Amel corn snake morphs used when they are crossed together.
Very cool morph but i dont understand why people keep causing confusion in naming stuff by choosing random names that sound cool, even if they already have a generally accepted meaning. Kind of like the ghost thing.
I'm going to pioneer a ball python morph and call it the superconda because... well its a badass name isnt it!
