Who says snakes aren't cuddly??

Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
Interestingly enough, pastels seem to be the sweetest morph out there. My nicest snake is a pastel as well, and I know several other people who say their pastels are the most docile and friendly in their collections. I cant get mine to ball up for pictures, and he always does the whole "come at your face, flick his tongue up your nose/cheek/lips and carry on smartly" thing.

Totally! He goes on my head almost immediately, and will literally give you kisses - in both the ear and mouth. He has zero head shyness, and even seems to "like" being rubbed on his head & cheeks. If all pastels are like that, I want more! :D
Oh, and his favorite perch is on my glasses... which is cute, but I'm afraid he's going to break them one day (especially now that he's getting big). Sorry Toby, but they cost more than you did - LOL.

Yeah I wish all my snakes were like my pastel. I had a normal BP that was as gentle as him that wasnt head shy at all, he was a rescue and I just recently rehomed him.

Mona is a sweetheart too, but she's too big for sitting on my head. :colbert:

Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
My normal female was a sweetheart until she caught an RI, now that I have to give her shots she hates me with a passion.
-
Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
That's one thing I never had to explain to my mom when I first decided to get a bp when I was 10. She likes to hold them as much as I do. Of course it's nearly everyone else in the world that you have to have that "it may not be a dog or a cat but I can still cuddle with it all the same" talk with.
But that's why I moved into boas instead of bps like I originally planned, relaxing with my 6' hog island girl is nice since she's so big, and still growing.

I know what you mean, I don't understand why people have so much trouble with the idea that you can, in fact, snuggle a snake, but even people I've spoke to who think snakes are okay still have trouble with this.
Despite this fact I've found ball pythons much easier to cuddle than some of my friends dogs, which would much rather run around and play and cuddle with you.
By the way, that snake is gorgeous!

Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
Thanks guys! When I think about how sweet Toby is, I laugh at people who are afraid of BPs. My roommate was recently dating a guy who was 6'4", and he turned into a squirmy little girl around the snakes... LMAO. :D

How old is Toby in these pics?

Well well well, seems the vulture's havnt caught onto this thread yet. . . .
I posted a thread a while ago about how I like to nap/cuddle with my snakes, and I got the big "THATS IRRESPONSIBLE!". Pft...snakes love it. So do we. Some snakes ARE cuddly.
But I digress. Beautiful snake. Happy snugglin.

You shouldn't be NAPPING with the snake, but cuddling like seen in these photos is fine (I love the photos by the way. He's a beautiful pastel, too!). If you fall asleep who knows where the snake will go? You might even roll over on it. D:

It IS irresponsible. Cuddle all you want, but do it AWAKE. They can cover ground quickly and you can find yourself trying to get a bp out of a crack/crevice you didnt even think they could fit. Its like falling asleep with a toddler running about, youre asking for trouble.

LOL... Yeah, there is a big difference between holding & snuggling your snake, and sleeping with it.
Thanks for the comments everyone! :)

I think he's around 9-10 months now, but not sure exactly. He eats like a machine, so he's growing fast!! Almost 530g at his last weighing, so I'm hoping he's ready to breed this season. :)

Thanks for the comments... and yes, sleeping with a snake is NEVER a good idea! :colbert: Not only do you risk squashing it, but chances are the snake will be gone when you wake up.
Case in point: I recently left my (other) roommate in charge of Delilah, since she was hanging on the coffee table, and I had to run downstairs for a while. He's such a space-case, he went to bed without putting her away, and I came back upstairs to a missing snake. Thankfully I knew exactly where to look for her, since they (my adult snakes) always head for the same hiding spot - my guitar case in the corner. I opened the case, and she was hanging out as I expected... but needless to say, my roommate got a verbal lashing for that stupid move. So yeah, supervised cuddling is cool, but sleeping or leaving the room is NOT.

Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
Btw, here's a cute picture of Mona in that same hiding spot... not sure why they love this guitar case so much, but now I leave it there just for them (Toby, Mona & Delilah). :)
Maybe they should design hides based on this? Hmmmmm...

Re: Who says snakes aren't cuddly??
I wish mine would eat like that. Last feeding was 8/6 !!!! This is like the third time Eddie has 'fassted'. And even when he does eat, his strike is less than impressive and I have to entice him FOREVER before he even will take it.
