Did you wash the tub and the female off well? They will usually readily eat soon after laying.

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
i actually bought her 3 days after she layed, shes a big beautiful and friendly mojo female

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Maybe stressed from laying and then being moved to another location is causing refusal. Are you offering just what she was eating before?

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
yessir, her favorite, a medium f/t rat

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Same situation, I bought a female 2 days after she laid eggs. Took me 1.5 mths to get her to eat, and she refused everything until I got her an ASF.

When are you planning to try to breed this girl?
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Wait, youre going to breed her this season even though she just laid eggs two weeks ago? To each his I own I suppose, but I personally would just wait a season.
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Is that bad? If it is i would definately wait on her
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Give her some time to LIVE! Lol, just wait till next season and you'll have a bigger snake ready to lay down more eggs and give you more shots at producing a BEL. She needs to rest and put her weight back on.

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
true true, she deserves a break, her previous owner had her going for 3 years straight. she'll have a long vacation from that then. 1200 dollars i dont wanna jepordize by wanting a bels soon =P

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
You want to give her plenty of time to get in good solid breeding condition. She just layed a couple of weeks ago and is not eating yet.....breeding her would be the last thing on my mind.

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
thanks walt! =D
this is my first breeding season and as much as i want to make supers, i dont want to risk any of their health

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
If she lay 2 weeks ago that means that she is cycling late in the year.
I think you can start feeding her and let her setup to her new home. Then if she gets in track you can try breeding her in May 2010.
Not sure about that so lets wait to see what others says.
Good luck with her!!

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
my females pounded their rats like no tommorrow soon as i took the eggs for incubation
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
i was thinking about the late cyling as well,
im giving her this year off but just as a future referance is it bad to breed my girls consecutively?

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Carefully washed and put back in her own tub--virtually every female of mine will eat the day after she lays. (I don't offer food the same day, I figure she must be exhausted and needs some rest).
As long as the scent of the clutch is gone, they quickly become ravenous. I offer a smaller than usual prey item so as not to overtax their system after the long fast, and then offer food as usual on schedule thereafter.
However, it took 1.5 months to get a non-laying female eating after she took a 45 minute car ride and was set up in a new home. (Local purchase). Some balls HATE being moved, lol.

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
also im keeping her in a vision cage bigger than the tub she used to be in, can that be a factor?
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Great advice here. Try washing her and her tub out thoroughly. Then just give her a week or two to settle in. If she was eating f/t before, I might offer her a live rat just to really stimulate her. Get her established in your care 1st, then you can bust out the f/t.
Good luck with her!

Yes it can take time for them to ajust to a larger tub. I moved Female Yellowbelly from a 31qt to a cb70 at around 900grams and she actually refused food and became somewhat aggresive, Moved her back and she is not aggressive anymore but still off feed. Just takes time for them to adjust.

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Hi,
Can you describe her behaviour?
Where does she spend most of her time in the tub? Does she termoregulate a lot or does she hug one end more than the other? What position does she lie in?

Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
Like some others have already stated, give her a bath and wash whatever tub/tank she is in.
-
Re: How soon does a female thats layed take food after
hey dr del
ever since i took her home two weeks ago shes been really calm, ive seen her exploring her tank a bit when i first got her. she theremoregulates but she sits in a tight coil all the time, she already layed all her eggs so im sure its not cuz shes ovulated

If this is not done she may remain tightly coiled, twitching. Instincts are strong and she may remain this way for 60 days. This adds undue stress to her life.
I would go with the suggestions given to wash her and the tub thoroughly and see if her behaviour changes at all.
