    I've read that when you can see skin between the scales they're obese.

    Obese snakes will get rolls of fat when they curl up. I've seen an obese cal king that has huge rolls of fat on both his sides down his whole body. Not sure why the previous owner let it get that bad, I think it's pretty hard to miss.

    I'm not sure if it applies to BPs, but definitely for colubrids, if there seems to be a very sudden taper off the tail, the snake is considered chubby. Usually I look to that when deciding how much to feed my corn.
