longest snake you've ever seen in wild

i was in the Enchanted Forest which is a wildlife sanctuary in titusville, Fl the other day and saw a beautiful bright coloured garter snake that HAD to be 4.5-5 feet long, HUGE well huge for a garter if im not mistaken

i have seen blue racers around 4' and i have seen alot of bull snakes in the 4-5' range.

i have seen a 7 foot 3 in bullsnake. and a 4 foot 6 inch prarie rattler

Pretty big boa, probably around 6-7ft, in Costa Rica.

I've also seen some pretty huge lindheimeri

Can Garters even get that large? I know the midwestern variety would be 24" max.

Wheres a snakelovinbabe when we need her?

probably the 43 foot reticulated ball python i saw that one time where it was invasivising montana

Black rat snake around 6-8 Lol.

Probably the indigo I saw in the Everglades several years ago. It looked to be about 5-6 feet long.

timber rattlesnake - 5'
black rat snake - 6' +
eastern garter snake - we didn't measure it, but it looked close to 4'. it was HUGE.

Black rat around five feet.

The longest snake that I have seen in the wild has been a 13' 2" burmese python and a bunch of others burms in the 7'-12' range. I have seen a couple of black racers in the 5' range and a coachwhip that looked to be about 7'.

You know, I'd forgotten about the Burm I saw in the gator's jaws some years ago. That one was probably longer than the indigo I mentioned, but I couldn't really see the length of it as most of it was under the vegetation in the water.

What part of SoFla are you from?

A fresh-ly born clutch of rough earths!

No...Im going to have to say a TX Rat that was pretty well over 6ft. That or one of the Coachwhips ive come across. Tough to say, really.

the close to 7ft Cali King that has been in my car since i pulled her out of the middle of the street 10+ years ago :) she was my first snake and i have maaaany battle scars from her... but now she is as sweet as can be, just getting old and im sure starting to go :(

I sure would like to see a picture of that 7ft californiae!

Come to think of it, the largest snake i've seen in the wild would probably be a racer. If I had to assume i was around 4ft. Sucker was quick too.

4 foot Brown snake in Queensland

Black Rat Snake probably about 5 feet in VA.

I caught a 6-7' clouded island boa when I went to Dominica.
Native stuff I've found. 4.5' dead black ratsnake on the road. A few others ranging 4.5-5' including northern watersnakes, black racers and an eastern garter or two that had to have been pushing 4'( I have pics of some)

A big female garter snake I sa up in NH. She was in the 4ft range believe it or not and bulkier than most corn snakes I've seen!

i saw a 16 foot albino burmese python named cracker

One summer while I was in high school I was going home one evening. We lived in the country so the road was a standard 2 lane road about 15' wide. I saw what I thought was a log laying across the road so I stopped to move it. When I got out of the car I could see it moving in the headlights across the road. Once it dawned on me that it was a snake I jumped back in my car and just watched it. Knowing what I know now I would have to say it was probably somebodys burm or retic that had escaped or was released. This was in N.E. Texas...

A 6+ foot black rat snake I found in my front yard my Jr. year of H.S. I though it was a piece of cable!! Bent down to pick it up and it moved :O

So of course I carefully picked him up, took him inside and said "mom, look what I found!!"

She barely looked up, said "that's nice, now take it outside"


Geez, I know some people that would FREAK but no reaction :(

a 6/7 foot bull snake that bit me about 20 times when i tried to save his ass.
he was suning and resting in the middle of a intersection out in new mexico.
BTW i did succed in getting him off the road and safely into the underbrush.:taz:

I've seen a pacific gopher snake up at the ranch I used to board a horse at, and it was approximately 4.5' long. Beautiful!

I've also come upon some rattlesnakes approximately 4' long, I wasn't well versed in subspecies, just undoubtably familiar with what makes a rattler a rattler.

Smallest I've seen is the sharp-tailed snake, this fella gives you a good idea of the size of the two I found.

I stumbled upon this link, check out the 6th row pix of this red coachwhip ID page. Shows a coachwhip eating an alligator lizard and another eating a speckled rattlesnake... fasinating. :) Some more snake eating snake action on this page... California Striped Racer.

You do mean in your care? I'd think the temps in the car would be challenging to regulate for her. :D

I'm with kon1...going to work one morning I spotted a easy 7 foot bullsnake (Gopher snake) getting ready to try to make it across 6 lanes of traffic. I zipped over to the shoulder and threw the car into reverse to go back to him and accidently ran it over instead...no, just kidding...got out and he curled some but was fine in letting me pick him up and moved him back off into the desert. This time facing AWAY from Oracle Road. I kicked myself for not putting him in the back of the car to show the wife as he was so big in girth that there was nowhere for him to squeeze into - he was that large. I did a U-turn down the road but by the time I got back he was gone.

That was the largest AZ snake I have ever seen, captive or wild. I'd like to think he's still around today, doin' his bullsnake thing.
