Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
I thought I would start a Week 1 thread where we can strictly discuss our BP.net Bowl League. Woohoo, the NFL season is officially underway! Congrats to my opponent FatBoyBallers! Roethlisburger put up some good points for you, that's a good start! :gj: With AP and Fitz on your team, you've got the potential to run away with this game.
Jerhart that's gotta hurt that Lendale only got you 2 points... ouch!!! Fortunately it's still early. Emilius... tough start for you too, but you've still got Brady and a strong receiving core to bring you back.
Good luck to everyone this week!

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
I am stoked that football season is underway!! Good luck to everyone who is playing.
And it always bites me in the ass to be cocky, but have to have just a little smack talk...so I will get it all rolling!!
So everyone can feel free to call me Fantasy Football Master from now on!!
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
LOL.
Roethlisburger won't do as good as he did. In 4 seasons only 1 season did he actually get more then 18 touchdowns, it was 30 when they won the superbowl. Other 3 seasons he's only thrown for 17. AP & Fitz will help him out big time though.
Chicago Misterman made a tough call. He started Anaquan Boldin for his WR instead of Santion Holmes, and Boldin may not even play Sunday. He missed out on 19 pts though.

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
matt cassel is my starter, and he's not playing... so i guess i'm stuck with matt stafford - good thing the lions named him starter or i'd really be screwed!

You should offer my somebody decent for Eli, or you can wait till after week 1. I think Eli is going to do a lot better then what everybody thinks. You are going to get killed by me in week 1 also.
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
my team is terrible, i was out of town during the draft, i'm going to get killed by everyone! :)
still will be fun though, i love football season.
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
I wouldn't count you out for week 1 Colin. With Drew Brees likely throwing all over the place on Sunday, that means Stafford will be slinging it around as well. Other than quarterback, it's a toss up with everyone else in yours and Neal's lineup. A good day by a few of your guys, and a bad day from a couple of Neal's guys, and things could swing your way.
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
wowa wowa wowa fellas...
...they have only played 1 game. ;)
Colin, Matt Cassel will be a game time decision. Scott Pioli, the new GM of KC, has brought with him the 'Patriot way'. This means that they will not disclose any injury information to the media. I believe Tom Brady is almost always labeled as 'questionable' for the Patriot games. This makes it just a bit more difficult for the defensive coordinators of the opposing team to game plan around who the starting QB will be.
That being said, I wouldn't start Cassel. Go with Safford. :) The Chiefs have a horrible offensive line, a reason Cassel is injured in the first place. Although the Ravens have lost few starters from last years defense, and they are getting older...I wouldn't expect the Chiefs to throw up many positive numbers. Week 2 the Chiefs play the dysfunctional Raiders for their game season opener a Arrowhead...then I would start him. ;)
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
yeah, i think stafford will be a decent fantasy back because of calvin johnson mainly. cassel was awesome last year though... i hope cassel does start, but the reason i say he's not starting is because i saw a video of him from mid-week where he was hobbling all over the place.

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
one big question mark is have is brandon marshall..? now he's 'working hard and going to be a difference maker' according to the coaching staff??
also, does it matter who is listed as first and second player for your starters?
for example, at RB i have:
1 - kevin smith
2 - steven jackson
would it make a difference over putting:
1 - steven jackson
2 - kevin smith
?

Yeah, I am in the same boat with Brandon Marshal in another league. I don't think I am starting just because I have a 'FOR SURE' starter. Now if he can put up the same numbers is another topic, but I know I SHOULD get something out of him. I also am not too confident in Kyle Orton. Marshall is a great receiver...catcher. But I am not too keen on Kyle Orton as a passer. Game 1 will be a good indicator.
As far as what order you start your RB's or WR's....order doesn't matter.
1k,2s = 1s,2k

Yeah I thought about Boldin but what ya gonna do?......lol
hopefully the rest of the team will get big numbers.
good luck this week guys

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
LOL, looks like i'm going to take the win this week unless my 2 guys left to play don't do anything. I'm at 99, with 1 in play and still have 2 left to play. Ravens really hurt me by only getting me 2 pts. Brees a had a field day though.

Brees did great...too bad he wont be playing the lions every week.
I am proud of the Chiefs. Everyone thought they were going to get slaughtered (including myself )...if you would have told me the Chiefs would have been tied with the Ravens with 2 minutes left, I would have laughed at you. Pretty impressive by the Chiefs. Ravens went to the AFC championship last year...Chiefs won 2 games. We were missing our starting QB and best defensive player (Brandon Flowers). To add...our backup QB had a better QB rating than Flacco.

Are you serious? Brees will do great no matter who he plays. Ravens lack a QB, and then to add it Ravens also lost 2 of theit starting defensive players.
You're not mad that you have a pretty low score are you, and with only 1 left to play?
Oh by the way about Turner, 5 of his best games were vs people the Falcons don't have on their schedule for 2009, not to mention that he had more carries the Peterson. Brees also threw for more yards vs Panthers and vs Broncos & Falcons. Fitzgerald isn't doing too great either.

Easy...
...I DID say Brees had a great game...playing the Lions DOES have something to do with that. I never said he wasn't going to be productive for the season. He is a legit #1 pick.
Relax.
And no I am not 'mad' about my team...ha...it is fantasy football.
Breath.
As for the Ravens and Chiefs....The Ravens have more talent on their team player for player. All I was stating is that I was impressed with the Chiefs performance against a much more talented team.

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
Neal, congratulations on many of your players having a great day, but I guarantee it will not be like that every week... Jerhart's not out of it by any means, we'll see after tonight. Good to see some smack talk, now I can't wait until you two play each other.
Now lets see if I can rally a comeback against FB.

That statement could not be any closer to the truth.
Neal isn't this your first year playing FF?
EVERYONE will lose a game...some more than others. Your players will sometimes exceed their projected point total for the week...sometimes they will not get close to sniffing it. Don't forget about BYE weeks too...who are your backups and who will your backups be playing that week.
Neal you are having a great week...but it is only week 1...and like Markie said "it will not be like that every week..."

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
Oh, I was just picking with you Jerhart.
Also, yes it is my first year playing fantasy football, which that has nothing to do with my knowledge of football.

ugh, pretty much all of my players sucked today!

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
It's ok Colin. I hope Grant finishes good, he's got me 9 pts right now, and it's half, i'm at 124. I'm hoping to reach the 140s. I still have Owens tomorrow night also.
-
Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
yeah i'm not worried, just glad football is here.

***edit*** You changed your post. This was a response to your post about your buddy giving you all his good players in your other league and you barely won. ***edit***
Yeah I have had similar situations.
I have had some teams before who look unstoppable on paper but end up doing mediocre in the season. On the flip side, I had a team a few years ago where I just played with matchups. I would pick up 'B' list players but they would be playing against like the 30, 31, or 32nd ranked pass defense. I ended up getting 2nd in the league.
For everyone.
I really think that it is all about match ups. Going back to Drew Brees (who will be a top QB this season ;)). He[the Saints] had played the Lions. Review last season's rankings...Last year the Lions were ranked 32nd in overall defense, dead last in the league where the Saints were ranked #1 in overall offense. Clearly the QB of the #1 offense is going to throw up some big numbers against the #32 defense.
I don't think Brees would throw 6 TD's against Pittsburgh's D.
FF is all about who is playing who.
That being said...I am not bummed about Lendale getting 2 pts for me. Going up against Pittsburgh D...I wasn't expecting much.
I don't usually pay attention to the projected points via ESPN.
I go: to http://www.nfl.com/stats/team?season...=REG&Submit=Go
Search for last season's rankings...once the season gets going after a few weeks you can start following this years rankings. I will look at my WR options and activate those players playing low ranked Defenses (passing).
OR
I will search for the lowest ranked defenses, see who the opponent is for that week and go pick up free agents on the opposing team (as long as they are a first string receiver). This method is about 50/50 as sometimes you can't find players...and I just get lazy and don't care that much...it takes a little time and research. :)
Also keep an eye on injuries. RBs WRs and QBs get injured every week...this means you may have a chance to pick up a real gem...IE. Matt Cassel from last season.

Sorry but kinda still praying for lots of interceptions and fumbles for your team tomorrow night!!
Does anyone else absolutely hate trying to figure out who might be good and who might be bad the first week of the season?

Ha...I feel ya on that one. The first couple of weeks are like that. It is almost like preseason for FF to see who earns a roster spot. :)

That's where the fun is with fantasy football! Jerhart, stop giving away all of FFB's secrets to the noobs... :P Well, I'm throwing in the towel and bowing down to FB this week. Even though I've got 4 players yet to go, my deficit is too large to overcome.

Re: Official Week 1 BP.net Bowl Fantasy Football Thread
Yea in another league some people were cheating, so my friend gave me his good people, ronnie brown, drew brees(i had peyton manning) and he gave me roddy white. Brees did good, Brown & White did horrible.

How were people cheating?

He doesn't even own a defense. This was the draft:

N.O. traded Drew Brees, NO QB to Neal
N.O. traded Ronnie Brown, Mia RB to Neal
N.O. traded Roddy White, Atl WR to Neal
N.O. traded Marques Colston, NO WR to Neal
N.O. traded Ravens D/ST, Bal D/ST to Neal

Well I am done for the week! :salute:
Good game mxrider! Very impressive game by your TE Carlson. I never even heard of the guy prior to this fantasy game. ;)
I didn't do too hot in my other two games. Rough week for me! Looking forward to next week! However I wont be here during the weekend as I am going back home for the Chiefs home opener. woot woot. :)

P.U... That horrible smell? My team stinking up the place. Dang, only Rivers got me double digit points, and I brought up the rear this week as far as overall points in our league. Oh well, it's a long season...

That was 1 of my 4 leagues yes, but we only did it because he didn't want to play in a league with people cheating. I still won all 4 though, and yes this is my first time playing FF. I looked at all my matchups for next week, i'm expected to win 2, and 2 are a push.
