What Sould I Do?? Help!!
Hey guys,
I'm interested in getting into ball python breeding and been doing a lot of research to prepare myself.. right now I own a NORMAL MALE and a PASTEL FEMALE.. I'm very interested in purchasing 2 more ball pythons so that I have somewhat of a solid ground to start with.. in your opinion what are the 2 best morphs out there to compliment what I already have? So far the majority of what I've been told to do is breed my NORMAL MALE to a 'BUMBLE BEE' and my PASTEL FEMALE to a 'PEWTER' let me know what you think!
thanks!

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
Well first off do as much research as you can beforehand.. I'm sure you're aware of that though. :)
Your male pretty has no use in being bred.. Not point in breeding a normal male really if you're looking to get into designer morphs.
With what you have now, personally, I'd get another co-dom/dom female such as a pin, spider, pastel, etc., and a double co-dom/dom male such as a Pewter, Bumble bee, etc. These are all within a reasonable price range. Good way to start off a breeding collection IMO. :)
OR if you want a head start... Along with what I said above get a few large breeder normal girls.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
hey Simpson.. so you say to get 2 more females? and breed my normal male to all 3 females?

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
I am in the same boat as you. I have a normal male he is a reduced pattern and a female pastel. I have been looking to get a pastel male and a spider female. I would love to see if my male will produce the reduced pattern if he does I will keep a couple of girls out of him. Good luck with your snake hunt. ;)

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
I would say get a male morph and female.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
The normal male should just be a pet as he has no real use for breeding.
Most folks spend the most $ on a male since he can be bred to many females and pass on that gene(s), why would you want to pass on a normal gene? The pastel female, on the other hand is a great start. Really depends on how much $ you have to spend. We could name diffrent possibilities all day long but if its out of your price range its irrelevant. Prices vary dramatically.
How much do you have to spend and maybe we could give you better advice and do some more research of what you like. The possibilities are almost endless.

Yea. This is your best bet for at least 15-20eggs. Also when you get babies keep the ones you think will fit into your other breeding projects and sell the ones that you don't have plans for.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
i say to get a male bumblebee and breed it to ur pastel
then get a black pastel or cinny to breed it to her as well
i would suggest black pastel and maybe a black pastel female as well to make some super black pastels =D
i agree with:

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
thanks for the tip herper55 lol.. but i'm trying to figure out which one! there's so many that all look so great! but so far this looks the best...
PASTEL(female) x PEWTER(male) = Pastel, Cinnamon, Super Pastel, Pewter, Super Pastel Pewter and Normal >>> That's if the law of averages gods are in a good mood that day!!!
NORMAL(male) x BUMBLE BEE(female) = 25% Bumble Bee, 25% Spider, 25% Pastel, 25% Normals

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
Why breed a normal male to a Bumble Bee female? Think of the possabilities if you bred a morph to her! Even something as simple as a male pastel would do wonders in comparison. ;)

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
the 'boss' will only let me spend about 2g's .. which is not to bad i guess.. and i dunno how i fell about a black snake.. there are plenty of gartners in the backyard.. lol

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
well cause i already have the normal male.. i made the mistake of not getting a morph cause the price was right... now i got hit with the bug! so i wanted to utilize the male to get more eggs!! like i said before.. if i do match him with a bumble bee.. at least i have a shot at more bumble bee's, right? i dunno guys.. its so overwhelming!! and the reptile expo is coming to town on sep.20!!!!

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
There's no point in breeding the male normal just because you have him.
The real question is, what is your goal? Do you just want to breed ball pythons for fun? If so, go ahead and breed the normal male.
Do you want the maximum number of cool morphs? Retire the normal, breed a morph male.
Do you want money? The same--don't breed the normal.
Since you say you have 2G to spend, I suggest getting a really NICE male. Pick yourself up a nice combo male such as a pewter, and several normal females.
Here's another idea--get yourself an ADULT female morph, such as a mojave, pastel, or yellowbelly, and pick up a male pastel, and a male cinnie. You can make super-pastels, for one thing, which will seriously compliment any future breeding projects you do. This is what I recommend for the long run--you can sell the offspring you don't want to keep, and use the proceeds to buy more of what you want, and you'll be able to breed the female morph each season until your new acquisitions grow up.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
Ok I do not see the point in not breeding anormal male to morph females. If the OP can spend the money on 2 more nice morph females then so be it. Get the females you want and breed them to the normal male you can still get morphs if the male is a normal... Same odds... Then raise up the babies you want to keep and breed them to different morphs. That is just my opinion but many will not agree with me. Do what you think is right for you. In your position what I would do is get 2-3 nice females like a baby female or male don't matter albino for future breeding, a cinny female, and a spider female. That is what I would get right now if I was you.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
lol.. i had a feeling there would be alot of mixed opinions.. i still dont see the difference between a normal male and a normal female..

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
Most everyone is under the impression that a normal breeding multiple females is not as worthy as a morph male breeding the females. If you alreado have a female morph you are still gonna make them if you breed it to a normal male. Yes if bred to a morph male you would make more expensive babies but if you are willing to put a little more time into it and want to keep the blood line of that normal male then by all means breed it to everything you want to.

The difference is that a morph male would add something to the morph female. For example, if you bred your normal male to a bumblebee female the best you could hope for would be bumblebee's. If you were to invest in a Pastel male and bred him to the Bumblebee female you have a chance of producing Killer Bees. You can breed him with normal females as well to produce normals and Pastels.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
It's because females are valued more highly--you can breed one male to a whole bunch of females, so you don't need as many males. As a result, people tend to keep all the females they can get their hands on, and purchase only the very best males.

Re: What Sould I Do?? Help!!
thanks guys for taking the time lending your ideas!.. my 1st dilemma is that i got a soft heart, and because i enjoy the snake's more then maybe how much money ill make off them makes me wanna keep the normal and just use him this once to get a good number of snakes under my belt (that sounds weird) i'm a beginner and should start with what i have begun with, considering that this wasn't my intentions when i first bought the normal last year.. 2nd dilemma, right now i can only house >2< more snakes.. also wanted to get them young so i can build them up nice.. so hopefully in a winter or 2 i'll be ready to go.. now i like the idea of getting a male bumble bee for my pastel and shoot for killers, so that leaves this one question.. WHO do i let charlie brown have intercourse with???
