How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
My normal female was sitting at 2006g with a 130g rat in her belly and she had not pooped yet. I went ahead and introduced my pastel and left them be. I haven't seen any "activity" yet but today I got a nice present from Akina. I opened her tub to check on the pair, and I got a whiff of snake poo! I took the tub out to find a giant snake poop. It easily dwarfed my dachshund's poops and smelled to high heaven. I went ahead and weighed her now that she has a semi-empty belly. She is 1820g after that huge poop. Tomorrow morning, I'm taking the pastel out and putting in my spider.
So I'm hoping for a double sired clutch. How rare is this? If I get pastels, I'm hoping to hold back a female, and if I get spiders, I'm holding back a female. If I don't get any females of either, I'm going to sell all males and normals.

I have heard of dual paternity happening and I even hatched a clutch this year of triple paternity; fire, YB, and VPI satin black pastel.

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
Thanks! I'm really hoping for some spiders and pastels this season. I am already planning to breed two of my girls, and I just weighed the 3rd girl that I was on the fence about (she was around 800-900g when I was trying to decide if she'd make weight this season) and she was 1000g! So I'm hoping she can put on that extra 500g before the season's up. :) That will give me two females to breed with my spider and pastel males and another to breed with my 100% het pied male. :)

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
A double sired clutch is where you bred lets say a pastel male to a female and bred athor male spider and get spiders and pastel in the same clutch.I hope this makes since.

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
Yes, basically it just means that two males contributed their genes to the clutch. I'm not sure, but I think that two males can't contribute genes to the same egg, but they can father individual babies. You breed a pastel and a spider to a normal female, you can get both spiders and pastels, like I'm trying to do. :)
I'm really crossing my fingers but I'm not sure if my spider is really interested just yet. I've only paired him up with Akina once and he curled up in the corner and left her alone. Thriller, my pastel was getting close. He had his lower half draped over her lower half and their tails were only an inch from each other! I was like "Ugh! So close!" This will be their first time breeding this season.:please:

This year i think i made one with 3 dads in..

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
I just read on KS ( I think ) with in the last few days about a triple sired clutch. I forgot who it was but if I remember correctly it was a well know breeder.

yes that is correct or ball python breeding would be, rotate as many males as possible and see what pops out.

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
If you double sire, does that make the offspring (that are "normals") HET for both?

If you put 2 recesives in with your normal you will get all normals and NEVER know what gene took because they will all look normal. You would have to breed them out to prove which one is what.

Re: How Rare are Double Sired Clutches?
Hi,
That's why most people who run multiple males will only use co-dom or dom genes so you know who is the father. :)
I wouldn't mix in any recessives when doing this as it could take you years to find out what the hatchlings actually were.
