Acu-rites in racks??
I'm a little confused about something... I ordered a rack which is arriving soon, and already have the flexwatt and helix thermostat ready to go. My only question is, do I need an Acu-rite thermometer for EVERY tub? I will have 7-8 snakes total, and wanted to check before I buy anything else - I own 4 Acu-rites (or the equivalent) currently, but two are still in the box & can be returned. I was also thinking of getting a temp gun, especially if that can take the place of Acu-rites. They are just such a hassle, not to mention an extra expense with each snake.

Oops... I meant to post this in "BP Husbandry." Could a moderator please move it for me?

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
You need one because all the tubs are receiving the same temperature.

Sweet... thanks! I'll order a temp gun, and return/sell the Acu-rites I already have. :gj:

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
I just ordered the PE-1 from ProExotics... will that be sufficient?

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
The PE-1 is worth its weight in gold.

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
I dont have a temp gun, but my rack is a 9 level rack...so I have an acu-rite on the bottom and top tubs. Works out that the bottom tub is 4 degrees cooler than the bottom tub. Ill get a temp gun after I build my second rack to save cost on Acu-rites.
As for the PE-1, I hear that i's a swell temp gun and you can't go wrong with Pro-Exotics so yeah, it'll suffice. =]

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
Temp gun all the way. The Accu-rite I got is a dud, the temps were always off. I even put the probe on the tape next to the thermostat probe for kicks and got a 10 degree difference. It's sitting on a shelf now and still saying that the outdoor temp is 5 degrees lower than the indoor temp. Bleh. I'm sure mine is an isolated flub up, but it's still enough to make me not a fan.

Re: Acu-rites in racks??
I have a temp gun as well as the accu-rites. I have one that the probe is taped to the flexwatt itself and then one in the bottom tub (10 tub rack) and one in the top tub. I like to visually see the differences at a glance to ensure that all is well, but I can always check with the temp gun for better accuracy.

Always check specs on temp guns. Alot of them say "1 deg variance", but alot of times that'sin celsius which equates to, i believe, either a 2 or 3 degree fluctuation in farenheit.
