    Super Dwarf Retic?
Hey guys, I have my ball python but i want another snake. My ball python is great and is growing like crazy. But now im looking at getting a super dwarf retic. I just cant seem to find anything on their care? Is it about the same as a regular retic? I know their semi-arboreal and require a larger cage than most snakes that size would. Some have said they can be aggressive but ive heard people mistake their strong feeding repsonse for aggression. I want something a little more challenging than my ball python, beardies, and leopard geckos. Im going to be a senior in high school in about 3 days so i can handle something a little more challenging. Not worried about the expenses, just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and some advice and maybe a care sheet?

Super Dwarf retics can be nippy just like any other snake. They only require a max of 4'x2'x2' cage. SD retics max at 5-7 ft with females being the bigger. They live for a good 2-4 years in tubs till they need a larger cage. Some as adults never eat more than a small rat per feeding. It all depends on how you feed. Also be sure to buy form a reputable breeder otherwise you could end up wit ha giant.

their the same as the giants. most keep them at 78cool and 88-90 warm with a 45-55% humidity. IF you want the full detail hit up BOB Clark.

Okay, sounds great. I live in New York State and theres no regulation on these snakes as far as i know. Does anyone know any different? If so how would i get a permit of license for one?

Do you need one in NY? Im on the DEC site and i cannot find any license or permit for reticulated pythons or any other kind of reptiles besides diamond back terrapins and i think a few other random things.

New York form what i under stand only requires permit for Native species captive keeping. Which means if any snake you state has naturally must be kept under permit status. Other snakes do no need them. I do know new york dont allow venomous

In NY retics ,burms, anaconda's are all on the illegal list without a permit. to apply for a permit try the dept of aggriculture.if I remember correctly nothing larger than a boa is allowed. these laws went into effect about 2-4 yrs ago. hope this helps

    Re: Super Dwarf Retic?
if they go by nothing larger than a boa then the SD retics will be okay. As they dont out grow BCIs.
I read the sites and its not stated on them so call or email to get the facts and be sure to tell them its a Dwarf retic and they only get so big.

    Re: Super Dwarf Retic?
the super dwarf still goe's by python reticulatus and is still concidered unlawfull to own without a permit. I do not know of any state that seperates mainland wild types from any other such as morph or dwarf

    Re: Super Dwarf Retic?
    Shawn is correct.

The law does not differentiate between normal (Mainland) retics and super dwarves. Hence, the super dwarves would be illegal to own in NY.

Why not try a coastal carpet python? They have the same general build as a super dwarf but a tad longer, 8 - 9 ft. on average.

    Re: Super Dwarf Retic?
ever consider a blood python/ stp? I don't think you would need a permit for one and they are definetly more challenging than what you have...something to think about
