Babies pipping!!
Ok well some of you may or may not remember the trouble I had with this clutch. I missed to original ovulation and thought I had longer than I really did until eggs were laid. Needless to say when these eggs were laid I had NOTHING ready for them. There were 7 eggs originally and I ended up losing 4 right off the bat. The 3 remaining eggs have held up perfectly and have started to pip today on day 55!! I'm soooo excited. These are from pastel het ghost X nice looking normal. I cut the eggs on day 52 and ended up with 2 normal 50% PH ghost and 1 pastel 50% PH ghost. The pastel is the first one pipping and WOW the head on this thing is incredible, I hope it's a little girl. Anyways enough blabbing here are a couple pics I shot really quick of the pastel.

Re: Babies pipping!!
Thanks you guys... the mom I actually got for 25 bucks last year from a guy who owns a pet shop here in town. She was already 2800 grams when I got her, so I think I got a good deal. This is my first clutch so I don't know, do pastels usually have a really faded head like this that gets darker when they hatch?

Re: Babies pipping!!
it depends on the snake and a faded head is a great thing.

Re: Babies pipping!!
Congrats on the three beautiful babies! Can't wait to see out of the egg pics!:gj:

It will get "slightly" darker, but that's a quality pastel right there. I can't wait to see it out of the egg. Definitely the type of blushing on the head everyone should aim for when selectively breeding. Good job!

Thanks, I'm trying to be as selective as I can and breed for only the highest quality animals. I believe that with all the "so-so" pastels there are out there, people would be more willing to pay extra for an "A" quality pastel rather than a browned out one. Even some of the supers I'm seeing lately don't look as nice as a selectively bred quality "normal" pastel.

I'm doing the same, and I'm one who is willing to pay more for a Grade A animal.

Re: Babies pipping!!
The pastel is still chillin in the egg but one of the normals came out. He/she still has some yolk it hasn't absorbed though. I weighed it quick before I put it in it's new home, 78grams. I have it on moist paper towels for now. How long does it usually take until they absorb all of it?

Yeah, they're pretty nasty looking but they were attached to 2 of the other eggs so I wasn't going to cut them off and risk losing the good ones.
