my female gtps vent-- worried...
hello everyone! i hope youre all having a great day...
i have a question- i have two gtps-- one male one female, they are both about 6 months old and awesome! the female- however-- her vent seems to protrude a lot more then the male and im wondering if this is normal/looks normal. any insight would be hugely appreciated...
heres a pic....

Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
could just be my eyes but her skin looks a little wrinkly like shes going into shed. usually my gtps poop right after a shed and sometimes while they are cloudy their vents stay slightly open like that until after shedding and pooping. has she defecated recently?
also at only six months old they definitely shouldnt be handled.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
bigballs- thats the thing--- i watched her defecate right after i soaked her while i was cleaning her cage last friday and im not sure but it looked liked she prolapsed a little bit (?)
what could this mean?
thanks a million,
jackie
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
Could be a complication with probing a six month old green tree. 1 year and 100 grams minimum. That's besides the point now. I would keep her very humid and remove the perches. Seek a vets assistance Monday if you believe it was a prolapse. What are you feeding her? I've seen similar things in over fed little ones. I hate to be speak rudely, but we need to know the husbandry of the animal.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
david- she was never probed- she was "popped" so her sexing- while maybe not perfectly accurate- was completely non invasive.
i feed her pinkie mice- 1 or 2 once a week... her humidity is very high, and her viv is cleaned everyday. i keep records of all 7 of my snakes sheds, meals, poops, level of activity- everything. i definitely know the husbandry of the animal- why would you assume otherwise?. but i am a hypochondriac when it comes to all of my animals. so if i see ANYTHING even the tiniest bit out of the ordinary i investigate it- which is why i posted this thread.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
also- as far as the poss prolapse goes-- im not sure-- ive never seen a snake prolapse and it could be nothing-- its just that i just read gtps often have prolapsing problems so i got nervous-- it was also the first time ive ever actually watched her "go" so i dont know... either way-- ill take her to my vet on monday just to make sure she is healthy.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
Popping a baby gtp is worse then probing
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
jere- i totally get that now-- they were popped by the breeder-- a very reputable one i might add- but thats beside the point. i only mentioned that to give data on the swelling of the vent-- that it wasnt probing related.
my breeder friend called his herp vet-- and she saw my gtp tonight even though it was late-- in the end it was a bacterial infection-- i have to soak her in meds and water and he says shell be fine in a week or less. so in the end it looks like nova (thats her name) will be great.
thanks bigballs and i hope everyone has a great night.

i would ask for my money back. any real, true, reputable GTP breeder would know not to pop at GTP no matter what age. nor would they ever sex an animal this young. this animal will most likely have kinks in the tail.
their tails are extremely fragile and they shouldn't be handled, or sex until they are around a year and 100 plus grams.

Obviously you don't under stand just because they were done by him doesn't make it better he should be lucky he didn't break the poor things back.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
again- i hear what youre saying- and in the future ill wont buy my chondros from him-- in the end- i was worried about her vent- and in the end-- today it looks about 50 percent beter already. im just focusing on the positive and making sure both of my chondros (and my other 5 snakes) are happy and healthy today and here on out.
other then this bacterial infection, they both seem super healthy- ill keep my fingers crossed their little tails are alright. lucas- if they are kinked -- when would i begin to notice that?
thanks again and i hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
no telling when the kinks will show.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
At around one year from what I've seen. Showme, it seems like you've been very defensive in this post. At myself, and a few other members. We are trying to help. Just to go back and clarify what I was saying, if the husbandry records were available to us we could rule out over feeding and possible impaction. One of my little ones would also slightly prolapse when stressed, just seeing if you were in the same situation. Glad the vet got you in and the animal is doing better. The only thing left to do after it heals is take some photos for us to see. All of us love chondros.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
hi everyone! i hope you all are having a great tuesday!
i apologize for being defensive. that was the first time i ever asked a question about a real problem i was having with one of my animals. i work so hard-- prob about 3 plus hours everyday (including the dogs), and im always trying to love, take care of, and educate myself on my animals-- so i got defensive when i thought that might be in question. i DO appreciate all the helpful feedback from everyone. i am so glad nova is better. here are some shots of my lady!

she still has some bits left to shed -- shes soaking right now. but her overall shed came off great.

i only handle her when i weigh her, check her body out for any problems, soakher, ect. but i have to say-- both of my gtps are the bomb.com and literally climb onto my hand when i put it above them and lightly tap their head. i used to literally sweat whenever i had to take them out of their enclosures so the fact that theyve tamed down brings me huge happiness.
thanks again, jacqueline
ps- is anyone here going to anaheim this weekend?
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
What local are they? Good looking neo.
About the show, I'd go to the general section (very top, not sure of the actually name) and find the even forum.
Re: my female gtps vent-- worried...
