    Yingarna the Bredli
My husband finally got a good picture of Yingarna, my female Bredli, this morning! (Happy dance). The coloring is a smidge red from her heat lamp.

    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...467844bb78.jpg

She was on her branch, which is a nice warm spot. Pretty sure my husband used the step stool to get the picture.

She's tricky to get pictures of, as she likes to hang out on her shelf, which is above eye level, and doesn't sit still when she's out (see my "few Bredli questions" thread for an overall picture of her enclosure)

    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...c1a5ad890f.jpg

Yin is a year old, 213 grams last night. I got her about a month ago from Reptile Rapture, in Monona, WI (Madison suburb). She's still a little nervous/nippy, but getting better.

Last night was feeding day for the pythons, which also means they get weighed. I'm getting over lower back/sciatica issues, so husband was helping with Yin and Bruce (also still nippy) and commented that my problem children are growing on him. :D

Yingarna being queen of all she surveys. She's still nippy enough that I chickened out of getting her down from the top of the tree (above my eye level), and got Dracos to do it for me. :)

Yingarna was not pleased about having her cage cleaned yesterday. She spent the entire afternoon/evening sulking in the corner!on one of the magnetic anchors for her vine:

My bredli gets her shed in a wad from time to time after being handled and sits in her hides. Are you weighing her every time you feed? Why so often? I weigh after sheds.

Yes, we weigh every feeding. We started doing it with the babies, and kept going with the bigger snakes. All the snakes get frequent handling, and I expect they've learned that weighing means food next. If somebody's being particularly stubborn (Yin and Bruce), we will skip weighing.

In the last couple weeks we've noticed that Ying is (finally) settling down - probably she's gotten big enough not to worry about everything eating her. We've started letting her move up our arms and around our shoulders. I'm not as comfortable with her in striking distance of my face as I am with my spotted python or the BPs, but she's much better. Still head-shy too, but less likely to come apart, or at least not as badly, when she bops her own nose into something. I don't think she'll ever have a boople-snoot. [emoji3]

Pics are from January 20th, through her cage front.

She was in a snit Tuesday; I reached in to take her out, bumped her magnetic ledge just wrong, and it let go, dumping her. I took the ledge out, declared it outgrown, and shut the door - no use dealing with her at that point. Last night she was coiled up on her artificial tree branch, no doubt missing her ledge. A 4' X 2' X 2' cage for her will be our next AP purchase, definitely with a shelf. Menard's has cut stone-ish ceramic tile sections, thinking se might like that on her future ledge to get warm from the RHP.

Got her late September, at 11 months old, 175 grams, eating rat fuzzies (that didn't last long); now she's 475 grams, on small adult rats, 4-4.5 ft long.

She is great. One thing I find interesting is how she doesn't use her tail, vs. Bruce the JCP: When she's cruising around her cage or out exploring she very rarely holds on with it. Bruce, OTOH, usually has a loop as a safety line.

My husband was teasing me the other day about having more pictures of the dogs and snakes than our (adult) son. My excuse is that the snakes don't care if you take their picture, but it's also the ease of pulling out the phone or tablet, plus they're just plain photogenic.

All three of my Coastals and my Jungle use their tails as life support.

My Boas usually do also except when climbing vertical. Then they use their tails like a foot to stabilize on and push upwards. Come to think of it, my BP does this as well.

Rats, and the occasional mouse leftover when one of the smaller snakes refuses. She's got a great feed response, if she refuses a normal feeding she's either deep in shed or something is capital-W Wrong.

Got home last night and discovered Ying was blue. Grumble grumble grumble, the other big girls (BP and a corn) just ate Tuesday so wouldn't be interested in Ying's rat. She was out on her branch, so I tried zombie-dancing the rat on her - took a couple/few strikes, but she got it.

Her growth has snuck up on me; it's hard to believe she's grown that much. She's currently feeding every 5 days, and we try to err a smidge on the small side and let them grow slowly.

Large rats normally and medium rats when the ball python refuses it. I have not double fed since going to large rats even though I think she would take 2 larges if offered.

Called Animal Plastics and ordered Yingarna a new cage today - a T12, which is 48" X 24" X 24" tall (and an A20, which is 36" tall, for the VBB). I ordered it with the basking shelf, and I think I may get some (pseudo-) slate tile to put on the shelf. Because I don't spoil my snakes, nope nope nope! [emoji4]

The hard part now is waiting the 10 weeks (or longer - son's skink cage got caught in delays on their end, hopefully ships this week).

Still waiting for Ying to shed - her eyes cleared a couple days ago. I'd like to get some good pictures of her freshly-shed.

Poor Ying, she had a very bad day.

I looked around the house to find something to use for a replacement perch, and came up with a bucket I use as a trash can in my leather workshop. A little help from Comrade Dremel, the shop-vac, and a damp paper towel, and Voila! New perch/cave.

Coaxed Ying off her fallen tree (which she was stubbornly still perching on), replaced it with the bucket, and put her back in. Nope, sulking.
    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...edb91155e2.jpg

Off to my guitar lesson. Came back, still sulking, on her Magnaturals vine and RHP cord.
    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...77af646046.jpg
    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...da40e9f43b.jpg
Ate my dinner, and looked again. Sulking! But moved to keep an eye on what was going on.

At human-bedtime - welllllll, maybe the cave part is ok...
    http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...f77c57f40e.jpg

Came downstairs this morning, and found her on top of the bucket (which is under the RHP), and one end of her vine in the water bowl, so she presumably got dumped when it let go at some point in the night. Put the vine back up, she went to sulk behind the bucket.

Discovered a smelly fresh mess under the vine, and when I reached in to clean it up, she struck at me. Given her bad day I just kept her back with a hook while I cleaned it up (which she didn't argue with, I think the strike was mostly cranky bluff).

By the time I was ready to leave for work she was back on the bucket. Hopefully she's through sulking soon.

Ying got to visit the great big outside world this afternoon while my husband put the light in her new (-ish) cage. She's a good 6' long, and over a kilogram now (1050+ gm). I think she may be in the very early stage of going blue - looking just a little dusty, and I think her eyes are a little pale.

Yesterday Ying stretched out almost straight, and we were able to get a length - 6' 6"! And no wimp. She goes where she wants to go, mostly.

Fortunately, she's also calming as she matures, except she's still very head-shy. Silly girl will jump if she bumps her own snoot into something.

I've been alternating medium rats and day-old chicks weekly, I'm thinking it's getting time to go with small rats, or to stretch the time out between feedings. I don't think she's overweight, but I think her growth is probably slowing down (need to get her in the scale again).

@ Prog- If she was 1050g in June she's probably 1300g+ now. I'd probably keep her on mediums but increase the time between feedings to every 10-14 days. My male jungle is a year old, about 1200g, and he's eating a medium rat , or a medium and a chick, every 7-10 days. My male coastal is two y/o, roughly 1550g, and he's' eating a large rat every 10-14 days even though he's been on a fast the last few weeks. Of all my carpets it seems like my Bredli seems to be growing at the slowest pace.

Finally got a nice day and time, so I got Ying back outside again. She's so pretty and iridescent. I know she's at least 7' now, but haven't gotten a good length estimate lately. And her head is getting big. She's so head-shy it's challenging to get a picture of my hand near her head for comparison, but I tried. Top rail of the porch is a 2x4, and I wear a medium man's glove, for size reference.

Thank you. Ying's not too big for me to handle, but I can see why the giant species need two people! She got a good grip on my fingers coming back into the house, and I'm glad she was just holding on, not trying to constrict.

She's getting a medium rat every two weeks, and I'll be picking up some rabbit kits next weekend to vary her diet. I think I also have some day-old chicks in the freezer that I need to feed off to Ying, Bruce, and Fezzik the boa.

Ying is up to about 2-1/2 kilos now. Sunday morning we got her into a pillowcase and thoroughly cleaned her cage. She promptly showed her appreciation by leaving a big pile of metabolic end products. Right below and in front of the end of the shelf where she was coiled up.

I managed to ignore it until after dinner, then opened the door. She started moving around in a worrying way, and I decided to use the big sturdy snake hook to keep her back. I got most of the pile out, and she started hissing. We’ve never heard her hiss before. I decided whatever was left would have to wait until she’d moved and/or is less cranky. [emoji15]

Thank you! I need to get her out the side porch again so I can admire her iridescence properly and get a good length estimate, if she’ll stretch out along the rail. She really hasn’t grow much since the picture with my husband, but he’s a big guy and had her at arm’s length, so her size wasn’t as obvious.

When I was putting Ying back in her enclosure yesterday she pulled her head along the underside of my chin, and I have to admit I froze up for a second - she’s still head-shy and almost always jerks away from whatever she just touched with her head, but I didn’t want that time to be the exception.
