Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Nice collection you have. Do you find handling corns easy or hard? Seems that they don't like to keep still...

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)

Love the scaleless. They look amazing and I got to hold an adult breeder; they feel awesome too.
Katie (my fiancé), who I live with, said one more! That's it! I chose Behira, my BCI, and have no regrets. Figment, my Hypo Lavender Corn kicks butt, and I would have enjoyed a scaleless, but I wanted a different species and challenge, not just a different morph.
Either way, if anyone gets a scaleless, or even another corn morph on the forum, please post pictures!

Thank you! I think Miami's are my favorite. I just love the contrast of the bright colors on the grey or white background.

They each have their own little personalities. Some of them are always on the go, others like zelda will fall asleep in my hand, Zorg likes to find a cozy spot in blankets to hid with just his head sticking out. If you handle them enough they will get accustomed to you. Hardly any of mine are head shy now. Pew was a feisty defensive thing when I first got her but has settled down now after a bunch of handling. When they are really small they are really fast, but they tend to burn out after about 10 seconds of squirming.
This year I may pickup one or two more corns. I'm thinking a hypo pewter stripe and maybe a candycane miami. When I was working a repticon back in the fall, the guy I got Zorg from had 5 or 6 or his scaleless corns there including a snow. They are so soft and velvety. I was also walking around with Hannabil another vendor (selling balls) stopped me to ask what he was then proceeded to pull out his little palmetto from his personal stash of snakes.

Pretty little babies! Love cornies!

Are the palmettos as stunning in person?
They look incredible in pictures.

Not trying to steal the thread, well, anymore than I have already :(.
I agree, they are all different personality wise, but generally very docile, although more darty than a BP, for example.
If you start with a calm baby, they usually stay super chill and get used to handling quick.
Even most defensive babies end up being chill in the end. Some are more darty than others, but with handling, can calm down a lot. They are tiny as babies and know it! As they get bigger and handled more, they realize they are less likely to get eaten and calm a lot.
I also agree they tend to burn out pretty quick and after squirming for a few seconds, chill quickly. Once they realize you are probably not going to eat them, they tend to relax and get used to handling quickly.
In general, I find corns to be pretty predictable as well. I have heard stories of other colubrids, texas rat snakes, for example, seeming fine, and then nailing their handler.
Figment (my corn) is a total sweetheart and only goes crazy when he sees and smells mouse! Then all bets are off! I feed him on tongs (as I do all my snakes) as he gets very excited! You will rarely, if ever, have a feeding issue with a corn. Great eaters!
Although more active when handling than my BP and BCI, he is 100% docile and isn't even head shy. Frankly, my BP, Shayna, who is a total sweetheart as well, tends to scare herself bumping into things (like my arm). Figment just goes on to the next. Bump, move, bump, move, etc.
I recommend corn snakes with two thumbs up!

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Well said dakski, and I don't mind the slight derail, after all it was still about corns.
The Palmettos never really impressed me with their pics, maybe because of the price they bring, but seeing one in person they truly are beautiful.

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
So just to test out some of my corns, I picked up 2 live rat pinks and 2 pups. They were fed to four of my larger males that are aggressive eaters that know how to eat live prey. It was funny, you could almost see the confusion on their faces as they checked out the rats. All four corns didn't strike or coil like normal. They just put their mouth around the head and started swallowing them live.
-
Well it looks like I'm adding another corn noodle to my collection. I only had a pewter stripe on my want list so I wasn't really in the market for anything else but this one was unique enough to want. Her pupil is red and the iris is blue. I can't wait to pick her up next weekend. These photos are from the seller.

^ that's awesome! are those eye colors genetic? and it's not like b/c of the lighting the pupils seem red like in some BEL eyes?
-
Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
It's genetic. The morph is ultramel anery. Normally amel (lacking blacks) and anery (lacking reds) would be a snow which has red eyes. Ultra and amel share the same allele. So its kinda like getting half of the amel gene and it lets some of the darker colors show through.
I might pair her with my anery het amel and have about a 25% chance of reproducing it.
-
When you get her, check the belly. The dorsal markings make her look like she's possibly motley and that head shot shows only white on the underside, but it's blurry.
-
That's funny because right before I committed to purchase her I inquired if she was motely too. The seller wasn't totally sure because he got her in a wholesale lot.
-
I picked up my new little girl at a local show this past weekend. She has a solid white belly with no checkering so looks like she is a motely.

-
I was only planning on picking up the 1 snake this weekend but plans change and I ended up getting a total of 3. I let my wife talk me into getting an orange Halloween ATB.
During the show another vendor I'm friends with waved me over to her booth. I help this vendor take care of the reptiles she breeds, her personal collection of snakes, and setup for shows. I was expecting her to ask me to watch her table while she ran to the bathroom or got something to eat. Nope instead I get "Hey, I want to buy this retic but I don't have any extra room. Do you want one of my corns?". So this is my new guy, he already had the name Demitri. He is an amel het charcoal ph anery and originally came from Sarah's snake shop. He's going to take a little while to get him use to being handled.
Looks like I'm going to have a bunch in quartine now.

The ultramel anery motely on the previous page I named "Alessa" from Silent hill. I caught her doing some silly snakey stuff. She has been a fearlees little garbage disposal and done excellent with handling.

Re: My Corn collection (pic heavy)
Well I just added another one to the collection. I found this one on Craigslist. She is a 4yo amel, at least I think it's a she. She was $20 and came with a 20L tank, screen lid, nice water bowl, log and log hide. The girl I got her from has been fostering her for the past year. She worked in a chain pet store. A customer came in stating they didn't want the snake anymore and if the store didn't take it then they were going to turn it loose in the wild. When the foster got the snake from the customer there were no hides in her tank. When I was checking her out she was super relaxed and easy to handle. I gave her a fuzzy just to make her feel at home before I put her into quarantine. Her new name has yet to be determined but I'm leaning towards Lydia or Morgana.
