    2019 Breeding Season Thread
Here is this years thread. It will be pretty small since I am growing quite a few animals up. I only expect 2 clutches.

Today my 0.1 Fire het Hypo is finally letting go of her eggs. It is day 39 post shed. She was paired with my 1.0 Hypo Pied. 5 out already, but it looks like she may have a couple more for me. The poor girl is looking really squeezed out. Thanks for looking.

That's a great clutch to have, there will be potential for some nice holdbacks

For someone who said he wanted no more than a few snakes :8:

They are all out. 7 nice plump eggs weighing just over 700 grams. Now there's nothing to do but wait for 8 or 9 weeks.

Thanks Deborah. I think Fire Ghosts are nice in their own right, but having the het Pied kicker has some potential.

As far as the number of snakes, I know, I know. I am weak and just can't help myself.

I’m in the ghost pied game myself this coming year. Going to mix in some other cool stuff with double recessive.
    Good luck!

Clutch #2 has dropped. 6 Good eggs from a pairing of 0.1 Possible Vanilla dbl het Pied Ghost to a 1.0 Pied Ghost. This is my first chance to finally produce visual Pieds and with Hypo as a bonus. Stay tuned.

Day 61 and things are happening. All of these will be het for Pied. I think I may have hit a ghost Fire here but I'll wait for it to crawl out to confirm. The other two shoot back in the minute I move the tub so I haven't had a good look. Stay tuned.

When I got home from work there were 5 pipped and two that weren't, so I cut the two and opened a flap on a few to get a better. Looks like I've hit 4 ghosts but I'm not sure how many fires until they get out. Two look really promising though. More to come.

First 3 out. A Ghost het Pied, a Fire Ghost het Pied and a Normal dbl het. The rest are still being shy.

They are all out and I am pretty happy with the results. Here's what I believe I've hit.

    2 Normal dbl het Pied/Ghost
    1 Fire dbl het Pied/Ghost
    1 Ghost het Pied
    3 Fire Ghost het Peid

Once they shed I'll sex them but I figured they've earned a rest for now. I'll put up some shots once they've shed. Thanks for looking.

Haha, you're hilarious, so modest! I bet you're 'pretty happy' hitting 3 out of 7 with the best possible outcome lmao :P Congrats man, that's a great clutch, I'm rooting for you to get the sexes you're looking to hit with those fire ghosts, really nice odds regardless of sexes. ;)

The three Fire Ghost have shed. I want to recheck them but I believe I have 2.1 for gender. One is very busy and one is very reduced and brighter, the other is sort of in between. The very busy one is male and the very reduced one is female. I have to recheck the third but my first pass is leaning toward male. Here are pics post shed.

Very nice! That last one would be my pick, love the reduced pattern and brighter color. What are your plans for holdbacks? I think if the sexes work out, I'd keep 1.1, I can never have too many females but I hate the three year wait to grow them out so I love getting a male I can put in the rotation the next year, 1.1 is a win win ;) lol.

Ruf, you and I are in agreement. That is exactly what I am contemplating. Since the last one is female, it is a three year wait to put her back in a project so the male makes sense. The question is do I go with busy pattern or reduced pattern on the male. Both have their appeal depending on the what your working them into. Not quite Sophie's Choice but still a conundrum.

If you plan to hold back 1.1, I would keep the male with the busy pattern simply because the female gives you a reduced pattern to work with already so it would be nice to have both types of pattern to work with but more importantly, the one with the busy pattern looks to have better color. But of course if you plan to ever put them together it would be super cool to see how reduced the babies might be if both parents were reduced. Decisions decisions lol, good luck! ;)

That's like asking me to recommend a name for your child. I wouldn't dare. It really depends on where you want to take your project in the future. With four genes in play there are so many directions you could go. You may want to go on World of Ball Pythons and play with the morph calculator. You will see there are the endless possibilities. Hopefully something catches your eye and gives you ideas. Best of luck.

BTW, I'm partial to the name Kevin, but only if it's a girl. :P

I know I said I wouldn't, but here are a few more pics of the morphs from this clutch taken in natural light. Still trying to decide my holdback. It really depends on if the last Fire Ghost turns out to be male or female. Thanks for looking.

    Re: 2019 Breeding Season Thread
I cant wait to wake up tomorrow and get a better look at this last clutch, but suffice it to say, I'm thrilled. Today is day 61 and I kept checking throughout the day but nothing had pipped as of 10 PM. I went back to look one last time at 11 because I was going to turn in and there was a nose sticking out. Normally I never cut, but I was really anxious to see the results on this one since it was my Pied Ghost to a dbl het female. At least I stuck to my guns waiting for the first one to pip on it's own.

I cut the opening a little bigger on the one that had pipped to see what it was. I have to say I was a little disappointed to see it was a normal, but obviously a dbl het. However, when I cut the next one I had hit pied. Then the next one, and the next, and the next, and the next. All of the other 5 are Pied. I won't know how many are pied and ghost until they get their heads out tomorrow. Nevertheless, 5 out 6 Pied that are at least het ghost or better is not to shabby for odds. Stay tuned.

That's super exciting! I can't wait to see what you end up with. Recessive morphs are so rewarding, I have a DG clutch hatching next week and I can't stop thinking about it! I won't have anything DR for a few years but I can only imagine! Good luck hitting those ghost pieds!

Thanks Ruf. It looks like I'm crushing it so far. Three of the five Pied have poked their heads out and they are all Ghost. I'll post some pics once everything crawls out but it's all gravy from here.

I wanted to post an updated picture of my only hold back from last season. He is a Fire Orange Ghost 100% het for Piebald. I just think this guy is so clean and bright, I can't wait to pair him. Pied Ghost is already bright but Fire Pied Ghost may require sunglasses if the pattern doesn't wash out to a mostly white snake. Thanks for looking.
