    RIP. Jewel
My kids and I are very sad and my non-snake loving wife is also sad.

I started my morning seeing something I knew was going to signal the end for our precious Jewel.

She was hatched June 19th 2013 and we picked her up at an expo June 28th 2014.

She was the silent favorite here. My wife who doesn't dislike snakes but also is indifferent always said she liked Jewel the most.

She had a mini personality and I enjoyed taking her out the most. In the 7+ years we had her, she went from small to over 8 feet long.

I didn't think I'd be affected on the same level as saying goodbye to a dog but I'm very sad today.

I'll end with some happier and healthier photos.

Loved her size and deck rail behavior. The rail is being painted tomorrow but sadly Jewel's last picture is on the old rail.

    We're going to miss her.

She'll be buried in our yard and a tree all be planted over her.

    Love you girl.

    Thanks for a great 7 years : (

So sorry Gio. My deepest condolences.

Always terrible losing an animal. Especially one you were so fond of.

You, your family, and Jewel are in my thoughts.

    Keep your chin up.

Such sad news to get from you this morning, buddy. You certainly gave her the best life a snake could ask for during her time with you and your family. She’s on a beautiful Aussie island in the sky now cruising the best deck rail she could ever dream of.

Gone but not forgotten. You will be missed, Jewel. [emoji1665]

So very sorry for your loss, Gio. She was a beautiful animal. And lucky to have had a good home.

I will have a beer in her honor today!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful pal, Jewel. This was much too soon, not to mention sudden? She'll certainly be missed- :( And she always looked stunning on your railing.

Sometimes you can get everything right, do everything right and still things happen outside of our control.

It has happened to me and it is a strong feeling of loss...Condolences to you my friend for having to know this loss.

    Take care buddy.

Jewel was the Queen OG critter of our Morelia Mafia. She was definitely one my early Morelia inspirations and always one of my forum favorites. She will be genuinely missed. I’m so sorry for your loss brother. This one hurts all of us. RIP Jewel.

I'm so very sorry. IMO carpet pythons are very underrated. Mine is quite the character.

    Thank you all!

Checking in here is bitter sweet.

If I could shake hands and say thank you face to face I would.

Being an animal lover covers more than mammals.

I was quite caught off guard losing this snake.

I didn't fully realize the joy she brought me by simply hanging out on the deck with me while I had a beer or two, but I do now.

Having something from another part of the world under your care is a privilege.

I'm not sure there is anything I could have done differently. I do wish I went to check them all one more time before bed to see it there was anything I would have noticed.

At this point I have to see what I may do to try to make up for the loss. Only 2 snakes will be considered.

A Pokigron, Suriname boa (female) or a Brisbane, coastal carpet which I'd maybe consider a male or female.

Jewel was damn near perfect here. 8 years old is too early to pass for a reptile like this.

    Gio,

I am glad we could help even if we can’t shake your hand or give you a hug.

You could have checked last night and the result could have been the same. You don’t know.

What I know is that you are a great, caring, and thoughtful keeper.

Please don’t second guess yourself. Definitely not in this situation.

Keep your chin up. We want you to and I think Jewel would want it as well.
