Please Read! This news story is about my Cousin
    http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=8150409&page=1

    Please read the story above!

This is a news story about my Cousin Colton Read that is just now gaining National attention but has been a nightmare for my family for about a week now!

Colton went into have a routine in and out surgery to have his Gallbladder removed. The surgeon messed up and nicked his Aortic artery which ended up with him currently in critical condition with both legs amputated.

What you wont get from the news story...

When he went in to get the gallbladder removed right after they put him under it was found that not all the paper work was completed so they could not begin the surgery. They brought him out of anesthesia so he could complete the paper work.
This put the surgeon off of schedule, who then threw a fit about it but proceeded to do the procedure. During the prcedure they nicked his Aortic artery (The main artery that supplies blood to the body). Instead of immediately getting him to a vascular surgeon she proceeded to try an fix her mistake and proceeded to fail horribly...Due to lack of blood supply his legs began to die and thus have now been amputated. After 8 hours of trying to fix her mistake they did get him to a vascular surgeon who was able to stabalize him but not before all the damage was done. Colton has not been woken and is not aware of his condition or that he is missing his legs.

We have found out that there are things that are compounding this situation. 1. The surgeon at fault has admitted that it was a mistake due to being careless because of the upset with their schedule due to the paperwork. It is now being investigated that the surgeon has lied and was allowing a 2nd year resident perform the procedure and only stepping in when the Aortic was nicked, but this has not been confirmed. After contacting many lawyers, Being he is military and this happened in a military hospital Civil Lawsuits can not be brought against them.
It has been gaining national attention now because his side of our family is very involved politically and have contacted many of their friends that hold public offices to bring this to their attention.

PLEASE PRAY FOR COLTON AND HIS FAMILY THEY NEED IT MORE THAN MOST RIGHT NOW!

    Thank you all,

Yes, that is correct. Can't sue the Federal government. Not that it would makeup for what has happened in anyway. How do you compensate someone for taking their legs? It is not a broken bone or something else that will easily heal with time. This is permanently disabling someone for the rest of their life!

I was also informed that he was brought to consciousness enough to talk to family members and was told about what happened but was put back under shortly after because of the extreme emotional reaction. I can not imagine personally wakening to such a nightmare. I really don't know how I would handle or deal with it.

That is a very sad story. Back when I was in the Army 40 years ago most Army Doctors didn't have the proper certification to practice medicine in civilian life but were allowed full authority to treat soldiers. I hope that the situation has improved since then. This is a really tragic event. Nothing could ever make this up to your cousin.
