my new cage setup, i know there isnt a hide in there i havent put it in, there is a heatpad on the bottem. i cover the sidess and back of the cage with black paper

I think it looks good. Are both sides temerature probed? I guess you can check both sides with one probe. So, nevermind. When are you getting your new addition? I'm excited, can't wait to see pictures :)

If you are using a UTH, the probe should be UNDER the substrate right on the glass.

Not only that, but if the snake burrows and the glass temperature is higher than the readings above the substrate, it could be burned.
Move the water bowl more towards the middle, and get two tight matching hides. (no log hides remember).
Put a towel or foil wrap on the screen top for humidity, I personally don't suggest any heat lamps.
PS, make sure your UTH (if you don't have one, get one) is controlled by a thermostat.

ok i want to have a heatpad on the cold side
if i get the zoo med 500r, will i be abke to conral 2 things at 2 differnt temps? put my at 92 and the other at 82?

not unless you put a dimmer on one and then plug it into the thermostat to dial it down from 92.
