    Another Craigslist Ad
I see these posted here all the time, but this one seems particularly odd - especially since there's a "heated" discussion on the Morelia forum on the same subject. Link to ad: http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/pet/1047455495.html

I have a 5ft red tail boa (femail) and a 10 ft burmese python (female). rehoming fee of $100 for both, but i warn you. You must have an extremely large area for both of them.. They live together and should not be separated. I will personally examine the area, if you can't walk in it, it's not big enough! Do not waiste my time with "ill build one for them" Build it, show me and they are yours. Neither of them have ever bitten anyone, i hold them regularly, and am very sad to lose them. you can call me at 714-880-2784 or email me at robert.s.edman@gmail.com
I've never heard of anyone keeping two different species of snakes together. That just seems odd - not to mention dangerous, with the whole Boa's carry IBD but aren't really effected by it. At least he's admant about seeing that the enclosure is allready ready to go. I don't know, from seeing Burmese set-ups locally, and Boa's on here, you would think that it would be hard to house them together since they are so different.

Feeding time must be a challenge also :taz:

So, has anyone else seen/heard of something like this, and was it sucessful?

If you are going to find completely incompatible species being housed together, then CL is the place. :gj:

Best I saw was a RTB and a rosy boa, or was it the python and the frog... or the mouse, crickets, and python? Either way it is a tough call.

I've heard of someone housing 26 snakes together, lots of different species, successfully.

I don't see the problem if you get a room-sized cage for them with several hides and basking spots.

Remember when the white people came and the indians got sick and died? Well, the same thing can happen. Things that have no effect on certain species can wipe out others without a blink. Lets say you walk into the room and find a regurged rat.... whos is it? You find poop with a large amount of blood in it... whos is it, what snake do you take to the vet? Different snakes need different needs, and no matter what housing them together can lead to many problems.

This is true, of course, but proper QT can prevent some of these problems.

I personally would never house snakes together exactly for those reasons, but at least the guy has a huge cage for them and wants other to have that too.

The reptile store close to my house has a burmese, a retic, and an anaconda living together in harmony (or so it seems). It's a 5 x 15 floor-to-ceiling glass "room" with a "wading pool" on one end and gigantic branches all over the place. Not sure how they get belly heat but there are several basking lamps hanging from the ceiling on one end. They're not for sale.

To play a little devils advocate.

Why do so many people on this forum think that owning a few snakes and posting here makes them professional herpetologists?

Strange animals live together all the time. If this works for him (and the animals) , why gripe about it?
