explanation on tubs?? plzz

ok so every body is apparently using tubs...i am not so cool. can somebody please explain the set up of a tub. im not talking about the water goes here, and the hide goes here. my bp loves climbing and basically does back flips off of his hide(the tree stump, not a half log) and idk how a tub can offer that much head room. maybe im not picturing a big enough tub.

also can u explain the back heating(not right term)...is that basically a uth slapped on the side of the tank/tub/vivarium??

Personally if u only have one bp, a tub setup is probably not something you'll want unless your trying to save space. Tubs are used mainly to save space, they are not very visually appealing. Ball pythons typically just chill on the ground or in their hides which makes a tub great because most are not too deep. If you only have one, he likes to climb, and space is not an issue I wouldnt consider a tub until you get more(which you will) :D

I dont use tubs to save space. I keep my snakes in tubs because its easier to provide the the temp/humidity requirements they need! Also easier to maintain a sterile environment. I like to keep my snakes happy, so if i have to give up visually appealing setups to make sure they are provided for then so be it! But i agree that keeping one snake in a nice setup wouldnt be tough, i like having alot of snakes:gj:

Me as well! Having failed miserably on keeping my first ball python in a tank, and seeing how well he did in a tub (as do all of mine), I'm sold on tubs as ideal (for me) to keep snakes in. If they did better in a tank, then they'd all be in tanks!

i m absolutely going to get more. but can somebody expain the set up...or is there a sticky on it?

Tub setup is fairly simple.

This is mine, not super flashy but it gets the job done. If you get a bigger tub you have more flexibility for "decorating". Tub setup is about the same as a vivarium setup.

As for heating the tub, I use aluminum tape and tape a UTH to the bottom of the tub on one side. This works well for me so far.

Ball Pythons are ground dwellers and height is not necessary, the tubs most people use are about 6 inches high and they are working perfectly for ball pythons

It basically works the same way, you use a UTH or flexwatt heat tape and a thermostat, to help maintain proper temps and avoid over-heating.

In most cases I would recommend belly heat over back heat (back heat would require a heated room with table temps year round)

This is a 15 quarts quarentine tub but you get the idea

This type setup allows you to easily maintain temps and humidity providing your animal with optimal security.

It is not about space it is about providing the proper environment for your snake whether you have one or 10 it does not matter.

They're are different way to keep BP and I don't see why 1 BP could not be kept in a tub.

As far as not being visually appealing this does not matter (I am pretty sure the snake does not care ;))

I agree with this, but there is one side this statement does not address. It is likely to matter to the keeper whether or not it is visually appealing. However, BPs aren't suited to being on display. If one wants a display animal, get a different species. Or get 2, a BP, and something else for your display.

I wasnt saying that is the only reason for tubs it is a big one, though I dont think someone with 20 or 30 snakes will have 20 or 30 cages that just isnt very efficient. unless you have a huge room its much easier to keep a bp in a tub versus a tank and if you plan on adding more to your collection you can put it in a rack. As for the appearence, well it isnt about that I was just saying compared to a tank it definetly is not a show piece.
