Thinking about D'Alberts...Any thoughts
Any White-Lipped Python owners out there? I am thinking about getting a pair. Any experiences good or bad would be great to hear about.

I had a black phase male and he was hands down the nippiest snake I've ever owned. He didn't like being held and it was not uncommon for me to take him out, handle him for about three minutes and then have him randomly start striking.
...and no he wasn't on the mean end of the D'Albert's scale - he was pretty representative of his species.
You are never going to "tame" a D'Albert's as you would a ball, a bci or any other pet snake. Additionally, the strike itself is much worse than you would experience with other pet snakes.
The husbandry conditions are a little more advanced as they have specific humidity and temp requirements and are not as forgiving as some other species.

They are pretty nippy!
More of a display snake then a handleing snake.
They are very pretty though if you get some experience with a hook and dont mind getting bit evey now and then go for it!
Re: Thinking about D'Alberts...Any thoughts
They are very nice looking snakes, but the added size and attitude compared to a ball, you would wanna take into the matter.
Re: Thinking about D'Alberts...Any thoughts
Yea they do get quite big..
BUT I have seen a 9ft black phase white lipped python that was tame!
But not all of them are.
These remind me of scrub pythons
they are very similar.

I have three adults. One male that I have is very tame, he has never struck at me, and I would let anyone handle him. My female isn't too bad, I can handle her but I wouldn't be surprised if she bit me. I have another male that strikes at me frequently. I would suggest that if you get one that you pick up a young CB animal if possible and work with it as you raise it up.

Hopefully :) I put them together for a few days last week but didn't see any courting or breeding yet. I just started cooling my snake room though. I think they'll need a little more time with the cooler temps to get them in the mood.

Ohhh awsome!
Hope to see some babys soon :D
Re: Thinking about D'Alberts...Any thoughts
black phase are known to be more easily tamed than the golds, but neither are going to be like a ball or whatever... if you get hatchlings that are feeding real well it's definitely a possibility to acclimate them to 'handleable' status.
