Introducing....Lucy

This is Lucy. I rescued her from a couple who could no longer care for her. She is a beautiful redtail boa, although for most of us, its pretty obvious. lol. Good eater and verrry strong. Measures about five foot, and no clue on the weight just yet.

And just how long do i need to wait until i can reach in and get her, so that i can clean up the water ???

any comments are welcome, and im defintely wondering if they have to be left alone for 24 hours like balls do after eating ??

so does anyone know if theres a recommended time frame to leave them be, like BP's or can i take her out now ?

I would guess 24-48 hours with any snake.

She is a gorgeous RTB!

Are you keeping her or just temporarily rehoming her?

I want to keep her, but if she proves ot be too much for us, then we'll rehome her. I reallllly wanna keep her, and thanks for the compliment. In the next few days Ill havea weight and some better quality pics

I wait 48 or more hours to handle boas after they've had a meal. It's not a problem to take them out carefully to fix their enclosures though, just keep it limited. Are you using a carpet for substrate? You might find newspaper or aspen is much better for them.

yes im defintiely switching out. Im so sick of taking that carpet out. At least with bedding, you dont have to take it ALL out EVERY time

There is blood in the picture of her eatin the rat.

Was that rat alive before? or was it pre - killed/ frozen thawed?

We leave our boas just like the bp's a good 48 hours after eating before we fuss with them at all - even longer if they've had a particularily large meal.

That carpet is going to drive you nuts. Personally I like a nice combination of aspen and cypress mulch. We buy regular aspen and then mix it with cypress mulch from Home Depot (it comes packed very wet so allow drying time)...about 1/3 aspen to 2/3 cypress mulch so very cost effective. The aspen gives softness and loft, the cypress holds up under the heavy weight of a bigger snake plus helps hold in humidity quite nicely.

Personally though since she was a rescue I'd have her on plain paper for now. You can buy a long box of packing paper, again from Home Depot, for under $10 (about 165 sheets). That way you can keep watch for any bugs that might have come along with her and easily collect a fecal if she appears to be in less than perfect health. Just a thought....
