california makes no sense!
ok i just discovered that in the state of california i cannot own a ferret or a hedgehog or a squirrel.. and the list goes on with the kool little fuzzy things i cannot own as a pet including as many would figure lions and tigers and bears and elephants.. but oddly enough Cheetahs are on the non ban list!?! WTF so you are telling me i can own a cheetah as a pet but not a flipping ferret?!? or breed ASF's to feed to my snakes? is this state retarded?
Re: california makes no sense!
You can also own a gorilla.

ROFL wow i am appalled at the idiocy of the lawmakers in this country and even more specifically this state. and what shocks me the most is the incredibly uninformed people who must have voted these rules into effect?! why would there be any more of a reason to not be able to own a hedge hog or ferret than reason there is to own a cheetah or gorilla? :cens0r: :soapbx:
Re: california makes no sense!
Although the state may not have an outright ban on some animals -- most counties and cities have zoning regulations as to the keeping of "exotics". As well most cities have regulations on the number of pets you can keep in any form.
As for the non-native small furries -- they can survive quite well in our habitat and way to many irresponsible people let them loose -- so there you have it.
Re: california makes no sense!
Hmmm i think i need to buy a gorilla lol
Re: california makes no sense!
i am quite certain a cheetah or gorilla could live just as easilly in much of the habitat of california as a ferret could and when i discovered this info on the department of fish and game website i also looked at the individual county regulation and in california there were only 5 counties that were listed to have their own rules and the majority of them were all listed a simply not within city limits the only exception to that was San Diego county
It is unlawful to own, possess or maintain any venomous reptile. It is unlawful for any person to own, possess or maintain any other wild animal unless he/she complies with all federal, state and local laws, regulations and permit requirements affecting such animals.
and they say nothing about in city limits either lol
Re: california makes no sense!
A domesticated ferret would not survive in the wild.

agreed hey i bet that is what bigfoot is! someones pet gorilla that got loose lol
but the aw doesnt say directly that you can own a gorilla it actually says that the genus Hominidae is an exception to the all species ban list of order primates and if i am not mistaken dont us as humans fall into that category? so essentially speaking i could keep another human being as my pet doeant that sound a bit unethical? lol
Re: california makes no sense!
In Georgia I can't own a corn snake but I can own a 20 something foot retic and all the indigenous venomous snakes I want without a permit. It just goes to show you how our government loves to waste our tax dollars making laws that are idiotic.
