    Some Ohio microfauna
The last of the pictures I took so far this year, towards field herping. I finally found a live Butlers Garter, and to boot, female! I apologize for the quality. My Uv filter needs replaced, bad

    Nice pics!

What's the difference between a Butler's Garter and an Eastern Garter?

    not much :)
generally the shape of their head/neck is different... i think the scale count between the first stripe and their ventral scales is different also. at first it's hard to tell, but the more butlers you see, the more you can tell that they're just not an eastern garter.

Also, their size, and color contrast ;) Butlers Garters are much smaller than the Eastern Garter, with average lengths of around 12-13" long. Their color is very contrasting...almost jet black, and lemon yellow. Easterns are more brown with a brownish yellow.
