    Your largest litter?
So the other day I was doing my usual rodent feeding/watering routine when I heard some familiar squeaking coming from my breeder tub. I peaked inside and I saw that one of the moms gave birth to a huge litter. I didn't want to disturb them since I saw that it was a fresh birth (babies were pretty bloody still) so I decided to check on them the next day.

I was right about it being a huge litter...24 baby mice! :O I was shocked. I mean, she didn't look that much bigger than my other breeder female (which had 13 babies today)

So on to my question to those who breed their own rodents - What was your biggest litter and how many babies survived? I ended up losing only 3 of the 24. I'm definitely holding on to some females from this litter for future breeding ;)

24... nice. :) So far the largest known litter I've gotten was 12, but that's known. Another two moms delivered practically at the same time and the total was 30! I don't know who had how many...but I'm now almost wishing they hadn't had that many, as they are now young adults and I still have 22. :D Lucky that 3 out of 5 eat adults, then.

It's strange because my two girls consistently have 15-16 babies each, except for this last litter - one had 9 more than expected and the other had 3 less. I was actually prepared for the numbers to start dropping since they're on their 5th litter and nearing retirement.

With rats the biggest litter I can remember is 21. I've had bigger litters in my mouse tubs, but since I don't separate mice I've never been 100% sure whether or not that was a single mom or a couple of moms giving birth at the same time.
