"night" light..

what kind of "night" light should be used.. I know alot of people dont use lamps for heat source but those of you who DO what type of bulb do you use at nighttime? I have read that certain colors arent seen at night by the snakes.

also do you put your probe directly under the lamp so you know exactly how hot its getting and keep one on ambient so you know how cool it is on the bottom and a separate one for the cool side??

From what I know snakes can see more colors than we can therefore can see any kind of light.

Personally I keep a 75w infrared running all day for a secondary basking spot.

from what ive read "red" bulbs are ideal for the purpose i listed. :) thanks for your input!

For a first im going to have one of my animals on display instead of in a rack (its honestly my boa) but i knew i would get more responses here than if i posted it somewhere else. I know temps are different but I needed to know what color bulb... I read both care sheets for balls and boas but thought i would get some person to person input also :gj: good job

I use a 75w infrared 24/7 to keep ambient temps up. (cold house)

75 watt blacklight bulb, made by GE for reptiles, in a reflector. Sells at walmart for about $4.

for those of you using 75watt, what size tank are you keeping your animals in?

Believe it or not it's a 40 breeder.. pretty big tank and 75w gives it all it needs for a secondary basking spot.

if this is going anywhere where you dont want alot of light id go with the moon light blue bulbs they put off very little light that we can see compared to the red ones.
