Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
I have seen this sometimes, just like when a snake swallows a meal but first. Its a small prey item so no worries. If the fuzzy started to struggle, the ball would clamp down. I have had animals take thawed rodents and just start eating them after biting.

I doubt a frozen fuzzy would struggle :P
If you simply "place it in" and let it lay there, then it probably will lose it's feeding responce....do you hand it from tongs and wriggle it, simulating a live prey??
that may help...
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
My pastel would do this too. He has a great feeding response and if hes out of his hide when i drop it in he will catch it before it hits and do the whole shabang. But if i drop it in there when hes still in his hide he will do what yours did and eat it without coiling or striking.
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
I use metal feeding tongs and definitely put on a show with the f/t fuzzie...kinda like the electric slide...it gets her interested usually. She latches...backs off a bit and then begins to swallow.

I may not be the right person to post here, but have you warmed it up? Or do you just let it thaw. If you warm it and then wiggle it that may help.
What part of Dallas do you live in?
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
I let it thaw in warm water in a ziplock, then transfer it to a small dish and blast it with the hair dryer before doing the dead mouse dance...Use to live down by the Galleria but I just moved up to Plano...a lot quieter!!
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
I have had a few snakes who do this, but mostly colubrids. Whenever I've seen them do this I was feeding items on the smaller side. Make sure you are feeding appropriate size food. Is the snake a hatchling?
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
To the best of my knowledge yes...it's at 105g today. I am not able to purchace f/t hoppers where I live, only fuzzies or full size mice. I know that you aren't suppose to offer prey that is larger around than the biggest part of the snake and the mice just look too big!
Re: No coil with f/t fuzzies
If you're in Dallas, make the trek over to Big Cheese Rodents. They sell both live and f/t and the quality is very high. I'm in Waco and I still make the drive every month for 200+ mice. Plus, they vacuum pack the f/t, so it will last for a long time.
