Re: When to feed new snake?
I normally wait 1 week if they look hungry or not, it's not going to hurt him.
Re: When to feed new snake?
I waited 2 weeks, but as the rest say, about a week should be ok!:gj:
Re: When to feed new snake?
The general rule of thumb is a week.
I offered mine a F/T mouse after four days, and upon smelling it he got so excited he almost leaped from his tub and nailed me in the face. ;) He's a bit on the thin side and I wanted him eating ASAP.
Re: When to feed new snake?
YES ... one week is good. This gives him plenty of time to adjust to his new home and keeps you from smelling a reguritated rat:rolleye2:
Re: When to feed new snake?
I fed the second day home... But both the seller and I were confident that the stress of the move was minimal. Due to the seller's concern for her I also came home with the tub she'd been living with and all its contents. She had not been fed for two weeks prior to prevent a transport mess, and was put in a "no-traffic" area of the home. He and I talked about her "normal" behaviours, and when there was no apparent deviation we decided it would be fine to offer her a meal. However, she had not been shipped, and was personally transported from his home to mine in a shipping approved box with constant attention paid to making sure there was little noise, consistent temperatures and no being knocked around.
It was handling which was avoided in my case for the first week and a bit.... Feeding went fine.
It really depends on the snake, and the manner of getting it home... I know other members have also fed within a few days of bringing home, however it's really circumstantial.
Re: When to feed new snake?
I feed on my regularly scheduled feeding day. Unless it is the day it comes home, I usually then wait until the day comes around again.
Re: When to feed new snake?
Rats a week from when you got him :)

I remember you said that, but the only reason I was thinking about jumping the gun is because he was getting a little more active today. BTW, thanks again. He's a fantastic looking snake.
I think I'm gonna go get a rat wednesday, and feed on saturday.
Re: When to feed new snake?
Hey guys,
I got my BP on wednesday and went to the pet store today to get food because the pet store, which I've known for years, said it'd been fed the previous thursday and said it would be good to try and feed the snake today. Since it'd been fed live, due to the fact that they couldn't get f/t, I got a live mouse. But when I placed the mouse in the box I was using to feed the snake it the snake did nothing. In fact, after a few minutes of noticing the mouse it tried to crawl out of the box away from the snake. Now I have a mouse living in a critter keeper I have with shredded newspaper, a piece of bread, and a little thing of water. When should I try again? I'm worried I'm going to get attached to the mouse...
