Re: smelly snake?
Well i would say that its the repti carpet that smells not the snake, i have never used it myself but i know that it can hold germs and funky stuff. So my guess is it is the carpet, bp. can go for upto if not more than a month with out goin #2 and it is not an issue for them. I have noticed that mine do there best #2 at the same time they shed. Wonderful presents!

Re: smelly snake?
Repticarpet doesn't take long to get stinky. Even after you wash it it still stinks.
I switched over to aspen and couldn't be happier.

Re: smelly snake?
Just to throw it out i use Cypress Mulch, i like it since it holds humidiity pretty good and if it dries out i just mist it and toss it around and mist it a lil more till it looks a dark rich brown like out of the bag and it is good. It also has a nice wood smell that helps combat the reptile smell.

Re: smelly snake?
thanks...the smell was bugging me out....he actually did poop...don't know hiow he did it but under the leg he sleeps in...it was stuck to the roof of it. I clean out his cage entirely with soap and water....I used some ,.lysol spray....but i made sure to rinse it out with water and scrub to get all the chemicals out.
I'mma switch back to aspen...thanks for the replies

Re: smelly snake?
My snakes do not smell at all, infact even the cats completely ignore them when they are face to face , which is scary .It is like the snakes do not exist for them. So it is probably your substrate.
I use Nature Bark which is heat treated and smells pretty good so no mites get on my snakes. Be careful not to use Repty Bark :banned1: which is not heat treated and has mites :snake:

Re: smelly snake?
I would definitely get rid of that repti carpet, just harbors all kinds of bacteria. Plus I don't believe that you could ever really get it clean enough. If you don't want to use a mulch/bark type substrate, then switch over to paper towels or newspaper. But definitely switch over to a substrate that you can just toss and put in fresh come cleaning day/when necessary. I am sure once you switch back, the smell will be gone.
