Can I get anything with Het spider???
I need some help!! I was looking on the Markus Jayne website and just got a little confused so I was hoping somoene on here would be able to tell me something.

Right now I have normal male and I was looking to get a female to breed him with. I was wondering if I got a normal looking female that was a Het for spider if I would get any spiders? Or would I just get hets and normals??

    hello

right i dont think you can get a het for spider because they are a dominant morph ( i think its dominant anyway i could be wrong ) but im sure you cant get het for spider , im still new at this so i might not be 100% correct

There is no such a thing as a normal looking female het for Spider, Spider is a dominant gene.

Only an individual that is heterozygous for a recessive gene look normal.

Now if you breed your male to a Female Spider you will get 50% Spider and 50% Normals.

Thanks all!! I just got confused b/c on the website they were calling the spiders hets and then they had a super spider and called it the homozygus.

For any dominant trait, you only need one copy of the gene for it to express itself in the appearance of the organism. In other words, a snake heterozygous for the spider allele (Ss) will appear as a Spider Ball Python.

Another way to think of this is, unlike recessive traits, there are no hidden carriers of dominant or co-dominant traits. If someone is trying to sell you a ball python that is het for Spider, but doesn't itself appear to be a Spider bp, then it is a scam.

Another genetic question then. Just to make sure I am getting things straight, if I have a het male and het female ghost, is there a possability that I will get a ghost????

Yes. I believe it would be a 1 out of 4 chance of getting a homozygous.
Someone feel more than free to correct me if I'm wrong. :)

True. Ghost is recessive, so a het to het breeding you get 1 out of 4 coming out as a ghost. If the egg gods smile upon you of course.

Yes that's correct for the most part.....just remember that's a 1 out of 4 chance for each egg. Probability is a theoretical value. It doesn't mean that you'll get 1 hypo if your females lays 4 eggs. With small sample sizes, actual frequencies and theoretical frequencies differ a lot.

Think of it this way if you flip a coin 10 times, probabilities tell you can expect 5 heads, 5 tails. But often you get something very different--like 8 heads and 2 tails. Only if you flip a coin many times (100, 1,000, 10,000 times) do the probabilities and actual frequencies begin to converge. This is called the law of large numbers.
